Job Description

The SCADA Software Engineer is responsible for the development and deployment of operation technology software applications in the manufacturing space while working in a team-based environment. The individual will engage and guide customers to business requirements and then use those requirements to scope, budget, schedule, and deliver systems to meet the customer needs. This job will focus on the ISA-95 model with an emphasis on level two with familiarity of levels one and three. The SCADA Software Engineer will be part of the Manufacturing Technology & Engineering organization which is a corporate engineering project organization. This role will give the individual the opportunity to travel to Corning’s many manufacturing sites to learn their processes and provide solutions to meet their obstacles.

Technical Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into technical solutions including the creation of detailed work breakdown structures, planning, and execution

• Analyze requirements and performance to optimize systems configuration

• Provide contextual and technical information to manufacturing and engineering internal customers. Assist them in identifying difficult technical problems and devising solutions

• Install, modify, document, and maintain system configuration, updates and changes.

• Develop scripts and automate routine tasks

• Actively develop procedures and train peers on system operations

• Provide level three support for system including off hours as required • Participate in continuous improvement activities.

Travel:

0-50%+, as needed based on project requirements

Requirements Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related STEM Major.

• Minimum 0-5+ years related experience in SCADA software/operational technology project delivery in manufacturing environments

Technical Knowledge/Skills Needed

• Understands of fundamental software techniques and principles (Modulatory, Abstraction, etc.)

• Understand database fundamentals such as how data is stored in tables, relational database concepts, data manipulation language [DML], and data definition language [DDL]

• Understanding of networking fundamentals such as, the OSI model, TCP/IP model, components and devices

• Understanding of operating systems, especially Windows

• Understanding of application lifecycle management and associated software development lifecycles that are used in the development phase

• Understanding of control theory fundamentals, such as Open-loop and closed-loop (feedback) control

• Familiarity with SCADA applications, such as Ignition, iFix, or Wonderware

• Familiarity with ISA-95 model, such as Controls, SCADA, MES, CMSS, and Data Historians

• Familiarity with manufacturing protocols such as OPC, ModBus, BACnet, etc.

• Familiar with manufacturing metrics and reporting concepts, such as OEE, run charts, Capability (Cpk/Ppk)

• Familiar with continuous improvement methodologies such as DAMIC, DESGN, LEAN, and more

Non-Technical Knowledge/Skills Needed

• Ability to effectively communicate clear and concise concepts, designs, and status to upper level management and low-level engineers/operations.

• Ability to be self-motivated to address technical and nontechnical needs as they arise

• Ability to organize thoughts and ideas to ensure attention to detail is met

• Ability to manage multiple tasks to meet conflicting customer needs and schedules

• Ability to deliver results to customer and team to meet business objectives

• Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams
