Scope of Position:

Lead, execute and/or support current projects in the areas of interfaces between polymer and glasses. Utilize physical and chemical principles to solve development challenges related to use of polymers and glass in new products and processes. Act in project assignments typically lasting between 6 months to 2 years, bridging research projects towards the development phase and transferring to manufacturing. Conduct technical assessment and joint work regarding processing technology and material systems with contract manufacturers. Down-selects technologies for transition to manufacturing. Stablishes internal capability with out-of-shelf and in-house prototyping tools. Key ability of interest is to create innovative cost-effective solutions and/or supporting technology that can quickly enable new products that combine glass and polymer technologies.  

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Lead, execute and support current projects in the areas of surface physics and chemistry interactions of glass surfaces and polymers towards new products. Develop new processing tools, characterization tools and establish lab operations. Support improvements on the combined chemical, optical and mechanical performance of glass/polymer substrates.  

 

Travel Requirements:

10% Occasional travel, mostly domestic but some overseas travel expected upon demand.  

 

Education and Experience:

PhD in Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or Materials Science. > 7-10 years of industry experience.  

 

Required Skills: (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)

• Experience in transferring polymer products and processes towards manufacturing.

• Ability to design, build and test novel experiments from ground up.

• Deep technical understanding of polymer materials processing in a development environment.

• Deep understanding of physical-chemistry and surface science.

• Basic understanding of general optics of materials.

• Strong understanding of polymer physics, rheology, and general viscoelastic properties of materials.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical properties of materials.  

 

Desired Skills: ("Nice To Have")

•Experience with film printing and converting equipment and systems such as a Delta press or equivalent.

• Working knowledge of fracture and failure mechanics of glass and polymers

• Familiarity with statistical data analysis and working with large data sets.

• Experience with thermo-curable and photo-curable materials and its related processes and chemistry.

• Knowledge of electrostatics on surfaces and triboelectric charging.

• Basic knowledge of thin-film deposition tools (e.g, E-beam, Magnetron sputtering, spray coating, spin coating, slot-die coating, knife-edge coating, etc...).

• Experience with optical setups.

• Physical systems modeling.

• Excellent written and oral presentation skills

• Programming, preferably C, C# , Labview and Matlab.  

 

Soft Skills and Experience:

• Comfortable with ambiguity and multitasking among multiple projects.

• Ability to lead or contribute to multidisciplinary projects

• Ability to lead or contribute to international teams

• Experience with customer interactions and vendors
