Scope of Position
This position is to join the Optical Physics Department, located in our Sullivan Park R&D campus in Corning, NY. Our group leverages deep understanding of optical phenomena in research projects across a wide range of fields, including integrated photonics, metamaterials, optical fibers, quantum and photonic computing, optical surfaces and others. The candidate must have solid background in physics and be interested in applying his/her skills to solve real-life technological problems. In this role, the candidate will work with a team of scientists tackling all aspects from development of theoretical frameworks, programming, designing devices and experiments, collecting and interpreting data and driving understanding forward. We are looking for disciplined and self-motivated candidates, someone with positive attitude and ready to be a team player.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Develop theoretical understanding and implement numerical models for a wide range of optical phenomena, translating understanding into practical designs of materials and devices.
- Develop and propose experimental technique, build setups, program data collection and conduct experiments.
- Collaborate effectively with other scientists and technicians both in our Optical Physics department and across other groups in Sullivan Park.
- Document models, experimental procedures, results and data analysis. Support writing of internal research reports, invention disclosures and journal and conference publications.
- Clearly interpret and communicate results, learnings and formulate actions and next steps.
- Maintain an organized and safe laboratory environment.
Required Education and Experience
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Optical engineering or related discipline.
- Programming skills (Python, Matlab, Comsol, Lumerical) or other lab automation techniques.
- Hands-on experience in building and executing experiments in free space optics, integrated photonics, and optical fiber, electronics, opto-mechanical systems and programming.
- Ability to summarize, analyze, document and present results.
- Attention to detail.

The range for this position is $102,650.00 - $141,145.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
