Purpose of the Position:  

  • Engineering Software Development and Leadership
  • Develop high-quality software systems for measurement, inspection, gauging, data collection and reporting systems in support of a variety of Corning divisions.
  • Interface various vendors during the Design, Development and Deployment project phases
  • Lead or Participate in the software Testing and Startup phases at the customer sites 
  • Fulfill role as a Subject Matter Expert for key technologies of project resources.  

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing, developing, troubleshooting and debugging software systems.  Troubleshoot production problems related to software applications.  
  • Thoroughly follow structured Software Development practices to ensure fast and efficient systems completion.  Resolve problems with software and respond to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
  • When required, provide direction and project level supervision of both internal and external systems development resources.
  • Develop excellent process understanding of Corning’s manufacturing processes in order to better understand the customer’s requirements. 
  • Demonstrate strong technical curiosity, strong leadership skills, the ability to train others and the ability to interact with various levels of the organization.
  • Provide a high degree of technical leadership to develop and deploy software systems technologies in support of early stage, pilot and high-volume manufacturing activities for new technology transfer, process improvement, cost reduction or capacity expansion.

 

Project involved with:

  • All Corning business units.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% travel and could involve international travel.  Travel usually involves being away 2 - 3 weeks at a time.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Major in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronic engineering.  Bachelor’s required but Prefer MS or above.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in development and leadership in highly technical, multi-discipline engineering team

 

Required Skills:

  • Object Oriented software analysis and design
  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent testing/QA skills.
  • Strong technical understanding of SDLC process & tools like:
  • Jira, Azure Dev Ops and Slack
  • Experience in tailoring and following a structured software development process. 
  • Ability to create and present project related material to the Customer/Receiver/Management
  • Knowledge of the following:  
  • .Net programming: VB.Net, C#.Net, ASP.Net
  • C/C++, Java, R, Python, Matlab etc.
  • Web Services, WSDL, XML-HTTP 
  • Version Control: Git/GitLab/SubVersion/Visual SourceSafe
  • Significant experience and interest in relational databases and data analysis. 

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in design, development and maintenance of enterprise application integration
  • Understanding of Hardware, Operating Systems, Software, and systems maintenance that involve software patching and upgrade
  • Database experience with Oracle and SQL Server - Very strong in SQL, Stored Procedures, Triggers and Tuning in an Oracle and/or SQL Server environment. Experience or knowledge about OSISoft’s PI application software
  • Technical experience with inter-process communications tools and techniques 
  • Basic understanding of control systems
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing operation and management
  • Basic understanding of ERP
