Purpose of the Position:

Corning development organization is looking for a Development Director to develop the application, product and process of its architecture smart glazing innovation. 

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy. 
  • Propose annual application, product and process development objectives aligned with program priorities and associated budget; secure resources to execute.
  • Participate to the program cross-functional leadership team: Influence strategy, provide inputs on technology, participate in key decisions making and strategy workstreams, and key external engagement meetings with strategic partners.
  • Develop solid technical expertise on all aspects of the product performance.
  • Establish and maintain technology critical assumptions and ensure learning plans are built to answer them.
  • Communicate within the program and with stakeholders on technology status, spend, opportunities and risks. Communicate externally on Corning technology to support new technology adoption as appropriate.
  • Establish and deliver annually the ~5 years technology strategy and the cost planning inputs.
  • Collaborate with Research and functional groups and foster alignment.
  • Foster positive and collaborative team culture.
  • Development Lead & provide technical, functional and project leadership to deliver complex technology through internal work in a matrix environment and collaborations with suppliers, vendors and strategic partners. Focus on delivering product designs that solve customer problems and create competitive advantage and process designs that demonstrate capability to repeatably manufacture products at high quality and low cost.
  • Lead teams to deliver on technology objectives with an efficient use of resources, equipment, and materials. Set technology workstreams and priorities based on impact to business results, constrained resources and external commitments taken. Foster the use of best development practice adapted to situation and first principle knowledge. Develop the data collection, analysis and communication system in line with program needs. Establish and execute IP technology objectives.
  • Work with project teams and experts to solve difficult application, product, process, equipment, and metrology challenges.
  • Pro-actively manage development team engagement and morale.
  • Work with commercial teams to align customer requirements and Corning capabilities. Deliver samples, know-how and customer engagement materials to support product definition and adoption.
  • Develop learning plans to define and optimize the products and capable processes delivering capacity, capability and costs; discover and vet CTQ and product functional specifications with a system view.
  • Lead product delivery readiness review. Own product specs document for samples and products. Pro-actively engage in transfer to manufacturing. Supervisory responsibilities
  • Direct supervisor responsibility and program matrix responsibility for a larger team. Staff member of home development group.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in material, mechanical or system engineering.

 

Required Skills:

  • At least 10-15 years of experience in several technical areas overlapping position’s needs
  • Several product developments, involving glass, system and disruptive products • Process development with transfer from development to manufacturing
  • Smart glazing & display panel making
  • 10 years of experience in project management - including in leadership positions with demonstrated execution and strategic skills in a complex and ambiguous environment - multi-cultural/multi-location teams and matrix organization
  • High profile strategic partner engagements
  • Direct supervisory experience

Travel Requirements: 10-20% domestic and international travel in average depending on project assignment, including with Asia. Could be heavy at time if required by the program.

 

Hours of work: Standard full-time daytime hours with regular late/early calls with overseas.
