Role Purpose

Software Engineer I supports the development, maintenance, and modernization of internal and customer-facing software used in lab and production environments. This role contributes to feature delivery, bug resolution, test automation, and documentation across a growing multi-project codebase, while learning established engineering practices and working under guidance of senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

•Implement, test, and maintain software features (frontend, backend, or full stack depending on team needs).
•Investigate, reproduce, and resolve defects; assist with root cause analysis and regression prevention.
•Contribute to refactoring and incremental modernization efforts to improve maintainability and scalability.
•Write and maintain automated tests (unit/integration/end-to-end) and participate in code reviews.
•Create and update technical documentation (APIs, workflows, runbooks) to support maintainability and knowledge transfer.
•Support production and lab deployments by following established release, validation, and troubleshooting processes.
•Collaborate with stakeholders (engineering, product, lab teams) to clarify requirements and ensure solutions meet user needs.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience), and 0–2 years of professional software development experience (internships/co-ops acceptable); OR Associate (2-year) degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, or related field, and 2+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., C#, Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar).
  • Experience with Git-based workflows (branching, pull requests, code reviews).
  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot issues using logs, breakpoints, and reproducible test cases.
  • Familiarity with writing and maintaining automated tests (unit/integration/e2e).
  • Understanding of basic web/API concepts (REST, HTTP) and/or UI development fundamentals (depending on assignment).

Experiences/Education - Desired

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and build systems.
•Experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React/Angular/Vue) and/or backend frameworks (.NET, Spring, Node).
•Familiarity with SQL and relational databases; basic performance troubleshooting.
•Experience working in a regulated, lab, or production operations environment.

The range for this position is $69,372.00 - $95,387.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
