Purpose of the Position:

Lead next-generation textured glass process development. Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least one relevant critical process competency, including sandblasting, coatings, and printing/patterning. Work closely with glass, etching, ion exchange (IOX), and other materials and process SMEs and integrate into an effective process. Coordinate with product design, application and product engineering, and metrology to ensure the processes can deliver the required product attributes. Identify manufacturing options, working with engineering and supply chain, help select optimal path, and ensure the success of mass production.


Day to Day Responsibilities:


  • Lead textured glass process development in coordination with our etching, IOX, and glass SMEs, under overall direction from project leader.
  • Direct the activities of engineers and technicians in support of the overall process development.
  • Documentation in support of process deployments including machine specifications, operating procedures, and process conditions and sensitivities.
  • Sample generation for customer engagement as needed.
  • Actively support the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment.


Education & Experience:  Master's with 3-5 years of experience or a PhD in materials science, chemical or mechanical engineering, reliability/fractography, or related, with emphasis on materials processing, and 3+ years of relevant experience.


Required Skills:

  • Hands-on process R&D experience and demonstrated aptitude in developing new products and processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, scientific curiosity, and inventiveness.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation, and able to manage multiple tasks in parallel.
  • Able to independently define problem hypothesis statements, design experiments, and evaluate data using scientific and statistical tools.
  • Makes sound decisions by blending analytical thinking, practical judgment, and available data.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience with glass or similar brittle materials.
  • Ability to engage theoretical and modeling SMEs and incorporate fundamental understanding into work.
  • Sound understanding of manufacturing principals and experience in a global manufacturing environment.


Soft Skills:

  • Able to work effectively in technical project teams, both leadership and team member roles.
  • Ability to work closely with internal and external customers across multiple cultures around the world to meet their requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Travel Requirements: Less that 10%
