Process Research is seeking an experienced Melting engineer/scientist to provide support to Development, Engineering, and Manufacturing in the hot end of the Research Melters. In this role, you will work between research, development and operations, developing and executing glass melting experiments, lead process improvement projects, and maintaining stable operations of continuous melting platforms.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

Work in a team-based environment, participating as an individual contributor. Provide direction in project and process activities related to hot glass melting to teams or individuals, and drive process improvement based on data and strong technical evaluation. Provide critical thinking or fundamental understanding to improve process or melter performance. Apply sound understanding of engineering methods and best practices in proposing ideas or solutions for to improve hot glass melting process performance. Collaborate with world-wide plant locations to understand current best practices and challenges. Identify challenges and implement solutions in the melting area and pull in other divisions or corporate resources as needed. Willingness to learn and become a subject matter expert with the melting equipment and processes. Work in partnership with members of the adjacent teams to develop and execute daily and long-term experiment plans. Contributes to the creation of objectives and uses creative approaches to support projects; may manage a project workstream, process, or task(s) with limited guidance.


Travel Requirements: <10% travel

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Standard business hours; Monday – Friday. May need to support off shift as needed for 24/7 manufacturing


Required Education:

Bachelor in an Engineering field or Material Science required.


Required Years and Area of Experience:

5+ years manufacturing/engineering environment.

Flexibility - Able to change and adjust smoothly as the situation demands. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with process and data analysis including DMAIC, MEE, PEx and other problem-solving methodologies. Works in a safe manner and prioritizes a safe workplace.


Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills: Prefer experience with hot glass melting.
