Scope of Position: This person will be responsible for supporting projects in the Coatings, Inks, and Adhesives group within the Organic Technologies research directorate. This group provides subject matter expertise in the areas of coatings, inks, and adhesives to solve problems across all Corning businesses. He or she will be expected to document results from experiments and share with supervisor and/or project team. The ability to work in an independent manner under the guidance and direction of a scientist is a required skill. This position also requires the ability to adapt to changes in priorities and focus areas as projects evolve. All objectives and deliverables for the role will be established with the supervisor.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Work with scientists to plan and carry out required experiments to advance progress against project objectives
  • Preparation of testing specimens, routine operation of standardized testing, assisting with non-standard experimentation and methods development, maintaining and basic troubleshooting of equipment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office Suite in support of experiment data collection and analysis
  • Develop and update operation and experiment SOP and related documents
  • Perform equipment maintenance and upkeep as needed
  • Assist in the organization and management of lab inventory, prioritize experiments
  • Perform coating process and experiments, monitor experiment and process - and give feedback as needed
  • Involvement with experimental design, communicate monitored process observation, perform related measurement, and collect measurement data

 

Travel requirements: None to minimal

 

Hours of work/work schedule: 40 hours per week / M-F / Overtime may occasionally be needed.

 

Education and Experience:

  • AS or BS in technical area such as chemistry, chemical engineering and material science
  • Experience: 2+ years of industrial or laboratory experience

 

Required Skills:

  • Superior rating on Farnsworth-Munsell Hue and Color test
  • Experience color-matching of ink
  • Hands-on technical aptitude
  • Highly organized and good attention to detail, rigorous execution, and data accuracy Good at multi-tasking – working on several deliverables at the same time
  • Familiar with basic laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Basic knowledge of organic/polymer chemistry
  • Ability to work safely with organic chemicals
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-starter - independent

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working with inks, coatings, and adhesives
  • Experience with inkjet and screen-printing processes

 

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written formats
  • Ability to work across different organizations in S&T
  • Self-starter - independent
