The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Job Summary 

This role leads strategic project execution for the division, ensuring deliverables are met in alignment with organizational goals and quality standards. The position serves as the primary escalation point for off-track projects and drives continuous improvement across project management practices. This leader also owns employee development for a team of Sr. Program Managers, including coaching, competency assessment, and career planning.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end execution of strategic business projects, ensuring deliverables align with organizational expectations and timelines.

• Enforce and monitor project management process standards to ensure consistency and quality across teams.

• Resource strategic projects effectively, aligning assignments with project requirements and individual capabilities.

• Serve as the primary escalation point for off-track internal and external projects, driving issue resolution and risk mitigation.

• Lead employee development for project management staff, including managing objectives, supporting individual development plans, and maintaining competency assessments. • Coach and mentor Sr. Program Managers to support professional growth and team performance.

• Identify and escalate process improvement opportunities, supporting a culture of continuous improvement.

 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related technical field

• 10+ years of program/project management experience, with significant experience leading complex cross-functional initiatives and demonstrated people leadership experience 

• Track record of coaching and developing project managers, including managing individual development plans and competency assessments

• Demonstrated experience with process improvement initiatives and maintaining quality standards in a project management environment

• Experience managing project resource allocation and assignment decisions • Experience serving as an escalation point or resolution lead for complex, cross-functional projects

 

Desired Qualifications 

• Familiarity with formal project management methodologies or frameworks (e.g., PMP, PMI, Agile, or equivalent)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Microsoft Project

• Experience leading project management teams in a matrixed or divisional organizational structure

• Familiarity with competency assessment tools or frameworks for employee development planning

The range for this position is $145,578.00 - $200,170.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
