Scope of Position:

  • Process engineer that develops and applies fundamental understanding and engineering principles to develop, improve, and transfer glass or other material transformational processes.
  • Successful incumbent is an active learner that can adapt and be effective with different materials/processes, work at different points in product life cycle from Research to Engineering, and work across organizational boundaries.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and individually contribute to projects including the leveraging of modeling and engineering disciplines to provide fundamental understanding, apply rigorous problem solving approaches (ex, DMAIC, KT, DOE), and provide on-site support.
  • Collaborate with Research, Development and Plant Engineering to develop and lead production evaluation trials of new products, processes, and technology to improve performance.
  • Design, implement, analyze, and communicate results of process experiments.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 25% including international

 

Required Education:

  • BS. – Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • BS in related fields with greater than 10 yrs. experience

 

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience in material transformation preferably glass forming or ceramics.
  • Able to apply scientific and engineering principles to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze process data and trends to reach conclusions that help solve process problems. 

 

Desired Skills:

  • Development, Engineering or Manufacturing experience in the glass industry.
  • Strong understanding of glass processes, particularly glass forming
  • Working knowledge of statistics and application of tools for process control and management.
  • Ability to apply complex physics-based mathematical models to improve fundamental understanding of complex multi-variable systems and solve engineering problems.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills – effective at interacting and influencing across organizations, cultures and band levels.
  • Able to lead and work in a matrixed team environment to solve problems or produce a product.
  • Able to lead a technical team or provide technical leadership in a larger project team.
  • Good communication skills with ability to tailor message to the audience.
