Scope of Position

  • An excellent opportunity to develop in one of Corning Incorporated's key engineering organizations supporting the deployment of new, innovative and challenging technologies. 
  • Member of the team responsible for the detailed design of Forming equipment. This includes engineering and design support of new systems and improvements to existing processes. 
  • Support the full life cycle of mechanical systems from concept to implementation including conceptualization, designing, CAD modeling, development, and test/validation.
  • Conduct detailed analysis including structural, finite element analysis (FEA), thermal, heat transfer, stress, and manufacturability to properly specify designs.
  • Support equipment builds by creating and tracking scope of work documents, bills of material, and equipment orders. Support equipment checkouts at suppliers and equipment installation.  

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Lead equipment design projects involving multiple changes to existing technology and new technology leveraging other engineers and technicians in the group and in adjacent groups.
  • Work closely with equipment receivers and technical experts to understand project requirements and overall technology strategy.
  • Develop robust design concepts in CAD, including 2D drawings.
  • Perform engineering calculations and write engineering reports. 
  • Provide daily technical guidance to peers and more junior engineers. 
  • Evaluate the viability of incoming design requests.  
  • Actively participating in design reviews. 
  • Report trends, decisions, and test results to technical experts, supervision, and colleagues. 
  • Interact with domestic and international operation sites.
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 10% combined local, national and international

Experiences/Education - Required

  • BS, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline and 8+ years of related experience; or Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience. 
  • Experience leading complex equipment design projects. 
  • Practical 3D CAD experience and proficiency, SolidWorks experience preferred 
  • Familiarity with mechanical and thermal analysis (SolidWorks Simulation preferred) 
  • Knowledge of standard machining processes 
  • Good project management skills 

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing proficiency 
  • 2D CAD proficiency, AutoCAD experience preferred 
  • Manufacturing plant experience 
  • Materials science experience 
  • Familiarity with metal and ceramic fabrication processes 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

The range for this position is $93,991.00 - $129,238.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
