SCOPE/PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Strategic Account & Business Development Manager (“BDM”) is responsible for implementation of the near term and long-term account strategy. The Business Development Manager will help set strategy and provide leadership around the growth and profitability priorities in line with the company vision and values. Success is achieved through a deep understanding of the account, and by developing and leveraging relationships at multiple levels. The customer will view a successful BDM as a key contributor to their business and a valued partner.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary commercial lead for assigned accounts, owning account strategy, growth plans, and long‑term customer relationships to retain and expand revenue.
- Drive new business development and account growth, including identifying, pursuing, and closing opportunities within existing accounts and adjacent programs; build and manage a robust opportunity pipeline aligned to bookings and margin targets.
- Own commercial performance, including accurate forecasting, program visibility, revenue quota attainment, margin optimization, and pricing strategy in partnership with Product Line, Legal, Finance, and Operations.
- Proactively identify risks and opportunities and develop, implement, and adjust strategies to protect revenue, accelerate growth, and strengthen Corning’s competitive position.
- Lead customer engagement and senior‑level interactions, representing Corning in customer discussions, design cycles, and business reviews to achieve preferred or sole‑source positioning, competitive displacement, and increased share of wallet.
- Provide cross‑functional leadership across Commercial, Engineering, Program Management, and Operations to support bids, proposals, order execution, delivery handoffs, and post‑shipment follow‑up, ensuring customer satisfaction and profitability.
- Maintain deep understanding of customer, market, and competitive landscapes, capturing Voice of the Customer insights to inform account strategy, product portfolio direction, and leadership decision‑making.
- Develop and execute market‑focused business development strategies (Aerospace & Defense and/or Hyperspectral), translate strategic vision into actionable account plans, and effectively communicate activities, opportunities, and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required; technical degree preferred
- MBA is a plus
- At least five years of direct or indirect business development experience.
- At least five years working with and understanding customers and applications within the Aerospace & Defense and/or Hyperspectral markets preferred
- Ability to bridge technical know-how and customer relationships across different levels
- Collaborative leadership and business acumen
- Ability to work in a cross functional and cross divisional team
- Proficient use of PC software such as power point, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.
- Experience in developing sales strategies and performance metrics based on customer and market environment.
- Must be able to work effectively with both external and internal environments with limited supervision.

- Willingness to travel (~25% travel on average, but as needed to ensure growth of product line - Limited international travel.)

The range for this position is $116,236.00 - $159,825.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
