We partner with R&D, manufacturing, and technology teams worldwide to deliver metrology systems that support new product development and operational excellence.
This leadership role combines people supervision with technical project execution. The Supervisor – Optical Metrology manages a team of 4–6 engineers and technicians to deliver advanced optical metrology and machine vision solutions for development and manufacturing across Corning divisions. The balance of project work versus supervision will depend on the number of direct reports. The role requires strong technical skills and a desire to mentor engineers on their technical projects and career growth. This role is part of a corporate engineering group that provides measurement system solutions to all of Corning’s divisions.
Day to Day Responsibilities:

- Maintain a culture of feedback, mentorship, and peer-to-peer coaching.
Technical Leader:
- Lead projects by example and demonstrate technical depth in optical metrology.
- Leverage off-the-shelf instruments or develop new measurement methods to optimize manufacturing processes or inspect the quality of Corning products.
- Demonstrate proof-of-concepts in a lab environment.
- Engineer measurement solutions that are suitable for use in manufacturing.
- Define Scopes of Work, competitively quote when appropriate, approve Purchase Orders, track supplier work and approve invoices.
- Design, develop, and optimize optical measurement systems for R&D and manufacturing environments.
- Develop and implement image processing, computer vision or machine learning algorithms for feature extraction, classification, and metrology.
- Troubleshoot and improve metrology systems using data analysis and performance metrics (MSA, GR&R, uncertainty).
- Create and maintain documentation: system specifications, operating procedures, and software manuals.
- Train engineering, maintenance, and operations teams on system use and upkeep.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Development, Quality, IT, Operations) and MT&E partners in Asia.
- Ensure lab upkeep, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance for operational excellence.
