Position Purpose

Odds are that the email you read this morning travelled over Corning Optical Fiber; the smartphone you used had a Corning cover glass; and the vehicle you drove to work had cleaner emissions because of a Corning catalytic converter substrate.

Requirements

  • Minimum AAS in Technical or Science major
  • 2 + years of experience in a laboratory and/or manufacturing support role
  • Work independently and handle multiple concurrent tasks
  • Detail oriented and able to follow written SOP/ verbal directions precisely
  • Capable of monitoring and executing experiments
  • Document procedural steps and resulting data from various laboratory tests  
  • Ability to work with samples at high temperatures for short periods of time

Desired

  • Works well on a team made up of technicians, engineers, customers and project management
  • Has a proven track record of conducting complex lab testing with acute attention to detail
  • Effectively communicates results, directions, and experimental details
  • Technically curious and self-motivated
  • Use of respiratory protection (PAPR) and other PPE
  • Knowledge of glass melting and adjacent technologies

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering staff and fellow technicians to complete metals, refractory, glass and ceramic testing in a lab environment to support materials and manufacturing development 
  • Prepare batch, glass and refractory samples for testing and analysis
  • Hands-on support to conduct high temperature testing  
  • Perform raw material characterization and testing
  • Operate equipment necessary to support sample preparation and measurement
  • Collect experimental data, maintain organized records, interpret and report results to internal customers and engineers
  • Support lab safety programs to provide a safe working environment

The range for this position is $57,412.00 - $78,942.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
