Scope of Position
- Performs a variety of technical duties and activities as a part of the Applied Research and Development (AR&D) measurement group including:
- Perform testing in support of new product and process development, qualification and characterization, competitive analysis, fundamental understanding, customer issues and requests, and manufacturing.
- Conduct optical measurement method development.
- Conduct experiments to evaluate fiber performance and fiber reliability in the application space.
- Support development of improved measurement and experimental techniques for evaluating the performance of fiber and related systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technician-level measurement and testing capabilities in the optical test area at Sullivan Park Fiber measurements lab.
- Independently collect, organize, analyze and graph data, publish reports, and maintain accurate records regarding products and optical testing systems.
- Support new product development and enhancements to existing products by organizing and conducting qualification tests.
- Support efforts to develop new optical measurement methods for evaluating fiber and associated systems.
- Perform routine calibration, certification, maintenance, and troubleshooting of optical test equipment.
- Provide and maintain formal documentation of measurement procedures.
- Develop and communicate schedules and manage timelines for assigned tasks.
- Facilitate project completion between groups in the laboratory.

Work Hours
- Onsite 40 hours per week, primarily 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM schedule with flexibility required based upon project and equipment usage requirements.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Associates Degree in a technical field or strong Math/Science background and/or experiences
- 2+ years experience in technician roles
Required Skills
- Willingness to learn new skills and gain a deeper understanding of processes
- Attention to fine detail and a desire for in-depth technical understanding.
- Ability to develop a strong fundamental understating of a measurement and system.
- Familiarity with optical and electronic instrumentation.
- Strong technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to assimilate new information and use it for a comparison to future expectations.
- Experience with optical fiber handling
- Technical problem solving experience, critical thinking, and data-based decision making skills.
- Follows previously defined procedures. Proposes and implements basic solutions to routine problems
Desired Skills
- Documentation and/or technical report writing experience
- Experience working in or with a Corning Development group
- Data analysis skills with Excel or other software package.
- LabView and/or Visual Basic programming skills.

The range for this position is $58,411.00 - $80,316.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
