The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

 

Scope of Position:

Leads early-stage interactions with customers to deliver comprehensive industry technology roadmap and to identify new opportunities related to Augmented Reality near-eye displays.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Establish deep understanding of Augmented Reality ecosystem, including markets, products, and technology leaders.
  • Develop extensive personal network across the industry.
  • Identify and monitor key technical factors accelerating or pacing Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality (AR/MR) adoption in Enterprise and Consumer markets.
  • Develop product technology roadmaps and identify how Corning capabilities can address emerging needs related AR/MR.
  • Initiate and drive external technical partnerships.

 

Travel Requirements: Up to 30% - Both domestically and internationally.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • MS or PhD Degree in Optics, Electrical Engineering, or Material Sciences.
  • MBA or Executive training in commercial/business is a plus.
  • At least 5 years work experience in leading technical projects or new business development.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to summarize complex technical concepts to senior executives.
  • Communicate clearly to customers and able to establish working relationships at executive levels.
  • Ability to identify the critical path on complex and convoluted initiatives.
  • Can work in highly ambiguous and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively organize, participate in, and lead cross-functional and diverse teams.
  • Ability to gain trust and cooperation from a diverse set of internal colleagues and external customers.
