Scope of Position:

  • The Thermal Equipment Design team provides comprehensive design and engineering for Corning’s specialized processes. We build the process environment for material transformation and phase change.
  • In this role, you would be designing, melting, forming, heat treating, batching and other related process services which includes but is not limited to the design for melting, forming, heat treating, batching, and related process services.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Comprehend and apply sound engineering principles in the design of thermally functioning process equipment.
  • Application of engineering principles primarily in the fields of mechanical design, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics. Use of numerical and physical modeling.
  • Collaboration with scientists and process experts as part of the engineering process.
  • Collaboration with manufacturing operations to further define and receive new and modified process equipment.
  • Observe and define incremental process equipment improvements.
  • Lead small design teams, conduct manufacturing experiments, evaluate vendors, etc
  • Equipment installation supervision and on-site commissioning as required

Required Education:

  • We require BS or MS in Mechanical, Material Science, Civil Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

Required Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of mechanical design, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
  • Strong desire and commitment to learn Corning’s thermal processes.
  • Results oriented; delivery of tasks to project schedules.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work in a global environment.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of modeling for flow, thermal, and structural analysis, etc.
  • Experience with Solid Works, AutoCAD, Fluent, ANSYS, COMSOL, GOMA, etc.
  • Communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate across research, development, engineering, commercial, and operations worldwide.

Travel Requirements:

  • We do require travel to Corning’s worldwide operations. Flexibility is required as frequency and duration vary according to project stage and status. Travel may include project meetings, equipment installation, and system commissioning.

Hours of Work/Work Schedule/Flex Time:

  • We work a standard, 40 hrs work week, Monday - Friday 8-5 with occasional overtime for meetings and travel as needed.
