The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Role within the Organization:

  • Work closely with Research and Development groups to insure product understanding for new glass rollouts
  • Define and prioritize product requirements and translate those requirements into a set of product attributes that can be accurately measured
  • Develop product specifications and work with Development and Engineering resources to ensure effective product development
  • Work with Product and Application Engineering team members once product specifications are established and support if customer issues are encountered
  • Work with Product and Application Engineering team members to address customer technical issues and explain product performance and reliability to include testing methods
  • Work with customers to alter their test methods and processes, if necessary, to insure consistency with Corning’s methodology and improved fitness for use evaluation
  • Work with customers to look for the appropriate tools or technologies for their products
  • As Gorilla® products/processes move through the stages of innovation, PE will refine the product specifications and develop a master specification which will guide AE in the development of individual customer specification
  • Assist AE in communicating the benefits of product enhancements as needed
  • Gather and compile technical information from customers within the supply chain, as well as equipment vendors, and AEs to maintain an up-to-date understanding of customer needs
  • Maintain and ensure alignment between Master, External, Customer, and Manufacturing specifications

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with various teams to support key customer(s) for new glasses and applications
  • Engage in face-to-face technical meetings with customer, including creating and compiling presentations to be aligned for the meeting
  • Ensure specifications are established, up to date, and agreed to by Customer
  • Support business activities such as product transparency evaluations and product road mapping
  • Interface with Research/Development & Engineering, Performance & Reliability Testing, Account/Commercial team, Operations, and Quality to execute on PE responsibilities

 

Travel Requirements:  <10% (mix of domestic and international)

 

Work Schedule: 45-hrs per week, with periodic evening or morning conference calls

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a BS Engineering degree (chemical or materials science preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in product specification, quality architecture, process improvement projects
  • Experience with R&D groups for glass development and testing (preferred)
  • Experience with risk and statistical analysis

  • Ability to understand details of customer processes and equipment, clarify customer requirements, and translate them into product attributes and specifications
