Scope of Position:

In this role, you will provide controls engineering support in development, engineering, and manufacturing in glass tube forming. The role will focus on experience in an innovative manufacturing environment, electronic, mechanical, electromechanical area. We look for you to work on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other personnel as well.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Work will include electrical, measurement, and process control equipment engineering related activities in tube manufacturing
  • Utilize fundamental engineering skills, data analysis, and problem-solving methodologies to understand and help with controls improvement
  • Work on individual and team projects which can range from new equipment implementation to process improvements and development, validations, experimentation, and problem analysis

 

Candidate will work under the direction of an engineer to:

  • Become familiar with tube manufacturing equipment and processes in a hot glass manufacturing plant.
  • Perform data collection and analysis.
  • Work with plant and division engineering on components, devices or system improvement opportunities.
  • Support basic controls testing, troubleshooting and identifying of root causes of technical issues
  • A mid-term review and a final review will occur with senior leadership in mid- summer.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 10%.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Summer internship: 6/5/2023 – 8/11/2023 (with some flexibility in dates)
  • Monday – Friday, standard business hours.

 

Required Education:

  • Pending Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Master’s in an engineering program with a Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering major.
  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year engineering degree program in good academic standing with at least one semester of core engineering course work completed.

 

Required Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of control/electrical hardware and software
  • Strong computer skills, especially with data analysis (i.e. Microsoft Excel, SPC rules).
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to work in a plant environment.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Control systems skills (coursework in engineering, statistics, or other statistical training).
  • Technical writing with the ability to deliver technical presentations to operators, engineers, and managers.
  • Basic statistical understanding.
  • Exposure to Lean or Six Sigma.
