Purpose of the Position:

  • Leads all start-up initiatives for CPT: Hiring, on-boarding, orientation & training, values deployment, policy development, positive employee relations, and delivering global HR processes in support of one Corning and one Life Sciences location.
  • Ensures collaborative practices within the Life Sciences MAP co-location
  • Ensures that the plant has the right number and type of talent required to achieve business results
  • Ensures that the plant establishes a positive work environment and operates as “One Corning” in support of Corning values.
  • Ensures plant compliance with HR-related legal and regulatory guidelines.

Day to Day Responsibilities: The successful candidate will partner with the Durham, CLS HR Team and Plant Leadership to align HR objectives and initiatives to the business strategy including:

  • Effectively manage the recruiting and hiring process for all salaried, hourly and temporary employees.
  • Lead onboarding for both salaried and hourly employees
  • Ensure employees are properly trained and educated to do their jobs effectively
  • Take ownership for specific HR initiatives that support the effective operations of the organization by developing and or delivering HR programs (e.g. attendance tracking, training, employee communications).
  • Identify employee value proposition challenges and works with plant leadership to identify actions for improvement (e.g. positive employee relations initiatives, affinity group facilitation).
  • Partner with the Durham, CLS HR team to manage all workers compensation cases, EAP case management, FMLA and Disability as required for procedural and legislative purposes.
  • Establish and maintain a presence on the plant floor to keep a read on the pulse of the organization.

Required Education and Experience:

  • At least 3+ years of HR experience (generalist/specialist).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Labor Relations or equivalent.
  • Hands-on self-starter, capable of juggling multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, allowing for communication across entire organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills.
  • Successful track record in the deployment of global HR business processes or programs.

Desired Skills:

  • Master’s degree in related area and/or HR certifications desired.
  • Applied Six Sigma, Lean or Kaizen experience.
  • Experience in implementing effective organizational design
  • Experience in a new plant start up or significant plant expansion project
