Scope of Position:

This role provides technical engineering, project, and leadership to the Molding department. You will be responsible for mold and equipment acquisition, as well as supporting process reliability for Molding operations. Responsible for direct (hands-on) troubleshooting and process improvement through root-cause elimination in Durham Molding manufacturing. We look for you to manage projects from design to implementation, including determining project scope and resource needs, establishing mold and equipment specifications, and developing and executing Validation Protocols. Ensuring compliance/improvement to quality systems in manufacturing (i.e. ISO, QSR, GMP). Responsible for managing mold maintenance and Tool Room operations. You will also provide Supervisory support for molding engineers and technicians.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide and implement technical strategy and establish project goals and objectives for Molding operations.
  • Responsible for the managing activities of Molding Engineers and Technicians.
  • Able to give direction to other technical resources on tooling and process activities.
  • Manage new equipment and mold projects from design to implementation including project spending and timelines
  • Develop processes for new products as they move into production: successful completion of validation process.
  • Responsible for hands-on troubleshooting and process improvement through Scientific Injection Molding Techniques and root-cause elimination in Durham Molding
  • Provide production departments with technical support to make continuous and step change improvements.
  • Use statistical methods for product and process analysis.
  • Participate in continuous improvements projects (Performance Excellence, Process Discipline and Process Control, etc.).
  • Develop and implement cost reduction program projects.
  • Responsible for supporting process reliability for Molding operations.
  • Manages mold maintenance program and Tool Room operations.
  • Ensure compliance / improvement to quality systems in manufacturing (i.e. ISO, QSR, GMP).


Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% domestic travel.


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Standard business hours; Monday – Friday.


Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Engineering and/or Plastics/Polymers.


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of injection molding, mold design and troubleshooting experience.
  • Minimum of 1+ years formal supervisory experience required.


Required Skills:

  • Experience leading teams formally or informally.
  • Understanding of automation and experience with equipment technology.
  • Capable with computer software applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with tooling and process development from concept to implementation.


Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft  Project preferred.
  • Experience with Process Validation and Statistical Analysis.


Soft Skills:

  •  Very strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop others.
  • Project management and leadership skills.
