BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

Plan, direct, and continually improve Lean Manufacturing activities at the Durham site. Implement Lean concepts such as 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, load smoothing, & one piece flow in order to improve performance in quality, cost, delivery, morale, & safety. Communicate and work with corporate & other Corning locations to establish similar goals/objectives, promote best practice, and ensure consistency of systems and procedures. Develop and implement systems, procedures, and projects required to successfully accomplish plant, divisional, and corporate goals and objectives.

Description of Work:

  • Champion Performance Excellence (DMAIC, PQA & Lean) for continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle using the appropriate methodologies, tools, and templates (creating specific tools/templates as needed)
  • Clearly communicate the Lean group’s philosophy, vision, & expectations. Provide coaching and facilitation on methods and tools.
  • Develop & sustain a strategy & process for the training and development of all site employees regarding lean concepts (new hires & existing employees).
  • Develop & implement a strategy for a self-sustaining PEx program. Assist in development of measurement systems that support lean manufacturing philosophy.
  • Facilitate/implement Lean projects in order to provide continuous improvement with the largest impact.
  • Lead value stream mapping exercises to identify & document opportunities to improve the business (Current & Future State). Develop & execute project plans in order to achieve the Future State.
  • Manage the planning and implementation of Kaizen related continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage and report out on PEx metrics for the plant • Develop & implement sustainable 5S, visual control, Load Smoothing, Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), & other Lean programs.
  • Facilitate the planning and implementation of workplace flow & layout, as well as equipment installations, modifications, and moves according to Lean concepts.
  • Support Global Quality and the Division Champion with corporate initiatives (e.g. training development, process changes, global translations of PEx materials).
  • Lead the Belts in the site location, through a Community of Practice, for enhanced sharing of project successes, tool methodologies or new training programs.
  • Assist site leadership in recognition of PEx project results and other significant accomplishments.
  • Oversee belt utilization, assisting management in achieving maximum belt capacity
  • Document work done & results achieved. Develop & update standards as changes are made. Ensure PDCA cycles are followed.
  • Identify & horizontally deploy benchmark opportunities and develop partnerships with appropriate parties.
  • Support other QCDMS+I projects as needed
     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Engineering, Sciences, or other technical fields
  • 5+ years in process, manufacturing, or quality engineering
  • Previous supervisory/managerial and/or Lean experience required.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, systems, and production processes required.

 SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Broad experience in DMAIC/Lean/DESGN tools and as project leader, facilitating teams at all levels using PEx tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, systems, and production processes required.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
  • Able to use various software packages for analysis: Word, Powerpoint, Minitab, JMP, Excel
  • Organized, multi-tasking with excellent planning and project tracking skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Change agent - Able to effectively lead a diverse group of people and motivate / influence at all levels of the organization to change
  • Familiarity with ISO quality standards
  • Certified Green Belt in DMAIC, PQA, or LEAN, Black Belt preferred.
