Scope of Position:

In this role, you will provide expertise in material and plastic assembly automation processes to support Division-wide and multi-plant automation and injection molding projects.  You will drive implementation of Resin Strategy and champion continuous improvement activities, including new technology implementation and fundamental process understanding, in support of cost reduction and quality improvement. 

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with plant and division equipment engineers to resolve manufacturing challenges, integration/installation of joining equipment and processes and other related projects.
  • Provides support for resin and automation validations at multiple plants around the world.
  • Supports and provides input to the Division Technology roadmap (including maintaining a knowledgebase of the latest technology advances within plastic joining processes and resin development).
  • Drives implementation of new manufacturing assembly technology.
  • Focus areas of assembly, welding (including ultrasonic, impulse and induction sealing), solvent bonding, and other joining technologies specific to plastic parts.
  • Support Division Resin Strategy for dual sourcing, validations and providing resins that can improve throughput.
  • Uses statistical tools and Design of Experiments (DOE) in process problem-solving and product/process improvement.
  • Develops robust processes for new joining and assembly equipment. Completes validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) per plant quality requirements for new equipment and processes.
  • Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps.
  • Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25-40%, including International.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • You will typically work M-F, first shift, but we need your flexibility to support off hours as needed.

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Plastics Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 years in an injection molding processing engineering

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge with Plastics joining experience, ultrasonic welding, solvent bonding, IR welding, etc.
  • Plastics processing, Injection molding and extrusion experience.
  • Automation design or building experience exposure and fundamental understanding.
  • CAD experience, preferably Solidworks.
  • Track record of delivering results.
  • Project team leadership.

 

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Project leadership skills, including multi-cultural teams
  • Understanding of Process Control and Process Discipline tools
    • Statistical tools such as statistical process control, hypothesis testing, sampling plans, capability analysis
    • Experimental design and analysis
    • Training in KT and MEE
  • Scientific injection molding knowledge Ability to engage with shop floor personnel and with plant leadership

 

Soft Skills:

  • Able to communicate through remote means (conference calls, email, IM)
  • Professional written and spoken communication
