BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

This program is aimed at cultivating Corning’s next generation of technical leaders. This role allows recent graduates to join the company and build a solid foundation in Corning’s technical processes. The Program offers rich development experiences, including mentoring and coaching sessions and opportunities to engage with business leaders across the business. Day to day, individuals in this role will provide technical support for the manufacturing process, assisting with production system management and troubleshooting / understanding of process and equipment issues. They will provide reports for technical issues and partner with engineering, operations, and maintenance on troubleshooting and escalation. This role rotates assignments every 12-18 months to develop skills across the Durham site. Upon successful graduation from the program after two rotations, candidates will be placed is a steady role based on their career aspirations and role availability. Roles may vary in location and generally fall within Operations or Engineering.

 

Description of Work:

• Provide on-shift technical leadership

• Troubleshoot process and equipment issues with focus on meeting production targets

• Work with Manufacturing and Product Development groups on evaluating and implementing capacity, cost reduction and new opportunities.

• Implement corrective action related to process variations, equipment malfunctions, or operations endangering the safety of personnel or facility.

• Installation and training of new assembly equipment into manufacturing.

• Interpret engineering schematics and procedures

• Identify opportunities and make repairs to equipment

• Adjust process parameters within established limits to ensure process stability

• Execute experiments and engineering studies

• Aid in creation and documentation of preventative / predictive maintenance policies and procedures

• Interface with Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

• Perform calibrations and process checks

• Support production reports and shift turnover.

• Supports 24/7 manufacturing site and works on 12-hour shift (2-2-3 rotation, subject to change).

• Wears appropriate PPE and gowning for FDA regulated manufacturing space.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-year degree in Engineering or related degree

• 0-2 years or related experience

• Mechanical troubleshooting experience highly preferred

• Ability to work varying shift schedules during the duration of the program Skills/Experience:

• Broad engineering skills (process, equipment, controls, robots)

• Strong knowledge of manufacturing and maintenance systems

• Disciplined problem solving

• Leadership – Providing direction to production associates

• Strong communication skills Desired Skills:

• Flexible and adaptable; willing to work outside of role to move the team forward

• Familiar with Robotics and/or automation– operation and maintenance

• Experience with Computerized Maintenance Managements systems (CMMS)

• Experience with electrical preferred.

• Dependable, highly motivated self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
