Role Purpose

Responsible for the efficient flow of product to, through, and from the Durham sterilization assets.  This includes supervisory responsibility for the P&M workforce operating the respective sterilization unit and front-line ownership of all equipment related to this asset.  Improves business processes and leveraging systems to hone the competitive advantage internal sterilization affords CLS.  Works with other team members to solve difficult system-related issues, coordinates with other sterilization unit leads to manage ware flow effectively.  Drives continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions, employee development and cost reduction projects in the area of sterilization. Determines methods, equipment, layout, workflow, capacity utilization, and control systems that drive improved effectiveness and cost of the sterilization process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervisor for P&M workforce managing the sterilization / material handling / material movement of the system.  Responsible for the development, coaching, performance management of all listed associates. 
  • Strong emphasis placed on maintaining strong cross trained staff to ensure 24/7 coverage of respective sterilization asset can be accomplished. 
  • Subject matter expert in all Sterilization support systems – dosimetry, Camstar, Peoplesoft, and irradiator control systems. Understand the linkages between the systems, provide troubleshooting expertise, and leverage capabilities to achieve ever-increasing efficiencies. 
  • Supports other Corning facilities and project work streams to coordinate new product introduction into sterilization and distribution. Work with other Sterilization team members to confirm requirements can be met and product characteristics are understood.
  • Create and maintain Service Agreements (Processing Instructions) for all sites sending product to Durham for sterilization.
  • Utilize business systems to develop, track, and report key process indicators for the entire end-to-end process (from sending facility through to receipt at distribution).
  • Lead projects to improve the efficiency of product and information flow through the end-to-end process. Examples would include championing product packaging changes, pallet build configurations, lot sizing modifications, etc.
  •  Manage irradiator capacity and analyze scenarios based on the dynamics of supply forecasts, manufacturing strategy initiatives, and supply chain transformation efforts.  Hands on management of product / mix scheduling to ensure dose execution occurs effectively.
  • Support Supply Chain Transformation activities – provide insights to project teams on capabilities and constraints.
  • Maintain the end-to-end value stream map for internal NA Sterilization.
  • Manage external vendors to facilitate equipment maintenance. Complete necessary requalifications and validations to maintain compliant operation.  Identify opportunities to deploy people, materials, equipment, and information differently to drive out non-valued add effort.
  • Monday-Friday onsite with off hours to support (24/7 Operations as needed) 

 

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing experience / 1-3 years of supervisory or proven project / cross-functional leadership experience
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Creative/innovative problem solving
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions
  • Strong technical, data-driven troubleshooting aptitude
  • Able to collaborate across functional boundaries and integrate standardized solutions
  • Demonstrated leadership or teamwork in accomplishing common goals

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of sterilization processes (Gamma and / or E- Beam)
  • Familiarity with ISO 11137, ASTM 51261 and NRC 10 CFR Parts 20 & 36
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (data structures, transactions, and inventory management)

The range for this position is $75,761.00 - $104,172.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
