Scope of Position:

In this role, you will be responsible for working with various CLS departments to bring new and critical products and/or process initiatives to the CLS product portfolio that meet our customer’s needs.  Initial project work would focus on new business opportunity; Single use, Closed System Sterile Bag.  Responsibility would include working with Program Manager to establish process parameters, KPIV understanding, identify metrology needs and potentially work with vendor to resolve, ensure process/quality documentation is complete, and support process transfer to manufacturing.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  •  Leadership: Manage a team of 2-4 in the Division Process Engineering department with similar focus to expand our product portfolio and capabilities.
  • Tackle problems and demonstrate feasibility using theoretical, empirical and modeling approaches.
  • Design and conduct experimentation aimed at investigating manufacturing process alternatives and developing new opportunities.
  • Develop and lead early stage sample making processes while maintaining strategic line of site aimed at rapid transfer to pilot operations and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Conduct hands on work in a pilot and/or plant environment striving to make a difference.
  • Communicate project status and updates to the work group – including memos, RTR, verbal presentations to management.
  • Measure and communicate progress against established objectives.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with groups both across CLS but also network to the S&T community to facilitate problem identification and solutions.
  • Document work and generate IP as appropriate.


Projects Involved With:

  • Using first principle knowledge to design low cost manufacturing processes (or keystone components of those processes) for new businesses, adjacencies or to enable new materials.
  • Early identification and engagement on critical programs, with focus on providing novel solution paths aimed at enabling low cost manufacturing processes.
  • Development of processes that significantly improve capital efficiency.
  • All work will be done will be multi-faceted usually involving other groups in manufacturing, quality, research, etc.


Travel Requirements:

  • We expect travel to be less than25% but flexibility is necessary given the current state of allowable travel.
  • International travel is a possibility.


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Standard business hours; Monday – Friday.


Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Material Science or related program.
  • Prefer Master’s degree or PhD.


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ process engineering experience with project management exposure spanning multiple stages of innovation.
  • Minimum of 1+ of experience in leadership or supervisory role.


Required Skills:

  • Noted accomplishments in problem solving and transferring new/novel process/product technologies from development through manufacturing innovation Process.
  • Creative/innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical fundamentals with process research/engineering and materials.
  • Able to manage an independent team effectively while providing coaching, mentoring, and promoting career growth.
  • Strong experimental practices; can understand fundamentals and recognize deviations and implement routine solutions.
  • The ability to learn new technologies and processes quickly.
  • Able to apply the principles of process control and process discipline (PCPD) from early stage through late stage projects.


Desired Skills:

  • Exposure to Stage Gate processes.
  • Knowledge of Modeling capability and how to use modeling tools.
  • Experiences and accomplishments spanning from early stage innovation to late stage. manufacturing across multiple business units.
  • Innovation Black Belt (IBB) or alternate strategic innovation platforms.
  • Some mechanical aptitude/equipment understanding.


Soft Skills:

  • Ability to manage ambiguity across an expanding business and product portfolio.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written, including accurate recording of experiments, creating detailed documents, and reporting out or presentation within team.
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.
  • Results oriented and high level of commitment (able to work in any stage of innovation and handle risk of failure).
  • Willing to take initiative; demonstrate leadership.
  • Strives to be an effective team leader who is passionate about motivating and developing people.
