Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

  • The primary focus is to provide process engineering support to the Finishing Department.
  • Lead and support daily production needs through process control, process troubleshooting, experimentation, and EHS compliance.
  • Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement projects and systems to reduce cost, increase selects, and integrate processes into production.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and identify causes for process and equipment issues and implement appropriate and effective corrective action.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for production equipment/processes.
  • Maintain process performance and product quality through ensuring consistency to procedures and improvement of procedures.
  • Support new product development.
  • Provide education/training to production workers as needed in implementation of process changes as a function of ongoing efforts and project work.
  • Provide written and verbal communication across all levels of the organization on both ongoing and project work.
  • Propose, perform and analyze experiments in Finishing to improve product quality and performance.
  • Support Quality Systems using experiments, Change control procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, Job Aids, and other documentation and training tools.
  • Drive Process Control and Process Discipline for improved product performance and quality repeatability.
  • Provide technical advice (within own area of knowledge and experience) and problem solutions to others.
  • Support off-hour / weekend operational and project requirements as needed.

Projects involved with:

  • Support and implement continuous improvement projects; improving product performance and cost reduction projects (select/yield improvements)
  • Capacity and capability improvement projects
  • Specific projects and tasks to be identified through MBO process

Travel Requirements: You can expect less than 5% travel.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Your typical work schedule will be 8-5pm M-F although you should expect to have flexibility for off shift and weekend coverage is expected to support project assignments including overtime.

Required Education and Experience:

You should have BS in Chemical, Ceramics, Materials or Mechanical Engineering with 0+ years of experience as well as:

  • Computer – MS products: Excel, Word, Power Point

Desired Skills:

  • Process engineering experience, designed experiments, statistical skills
  • Knowledge of data analysis methods and techniques (KT, Six Sigma, Lean, PQA)
  • Computer: PI Process book, JMP, MS Access
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Lean experience
