Scope of Position:

  • Reports to the Raw Materials Strategic Sourcing Team Manager, Corning Environmental Technologies.
  • Work closely with a broad internal customer base to identify business and functional customers’ priorities and closely align with business / functional strategies. In many cases, these activities will be performed as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Ideal candidate understands and considers/implements end to end supply chain management in all decisions related to materials.
  • Leads the development of analysis, sourcing strategies (competitive bids RFQ’s/RFI’s, proposals with pertinent specifications), negotiation strategies and conducts negotiations with potential and/or current major suppliers to obtain maximum value.
  • Interacts with Global Supply Intelligence and Global Strategic Sourcing leaders/resource to understand the existing/potential supply base and market dynamics, support execution of commodity and supplier sourcing strategy.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute Raw Material strategies for cost reduction, supply assurance, IP protection, risk mitigation and technical advantage for assigned materials, including cost modeling.
  • Identify, lead and communicate cost reduction opportunities working with technical and engineering communities both in supply and material selection to reduce costs through supplier, material and utilization efforts.
  • Challenges specifications, materials and processes
  • Works with the Business and Global Strategic Sourcing Managers on assigned raw materials to prepare and solicit competitive bids, quotations, and proposals with pertinent specifications, terms and conditions.
  • Develops and reviews specifications, statements of work, performance terms and accept/reject criteria.
  • Conducts negotiations with potential and/or current major suppliers to obtain maximum value in total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Leads the development and communication of global supply intelligence for assigned materials. (i.e. market intelligence, should cost modeling, low cost sourcing activities, consortiums, etc.)
  • Owns the Supplier Relationship Management process for the assigned materials. This process is inclusive of annual performance assessments and periodic audits.
  • Develops and cultivates effective relationships with suppliers.
  • Champions and advocates for the Global Buying Policy. Ensures compliance.
  • Communicates with team members globally
  • Monitors and reports both positive and negative purchasing savings both in net price change, value add and cost avoidance
  • Establish and achieve shared objectives with your customer base: Reduce cost, add value & minimize risk.
  • Participates in customer audits when focus is on supplier management processes and systems
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949, and/or VDA is an advantage.

Education/Experience Required:

  • BS/BA in Supply Chain Management or Business
  • BS/MS/MBA Supply Chain Management, Business or Technical (Ceramic/Materials/Chemical Engineering) Desired
  • 5 –10 years experience, preferably in raw materials procurement or supplier management.  Proven track record of cost reduction, negotiations and project management.  Automotive industry experience is an advantage.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 40+ as job requires. Some evening hours to support operations in different time zones.    

Travel Requirements:

  • 15% domestic and international
  • Trips to US and international Corning sites for project coordination or issue resolution. Travel also includes vendor sites and industry conferences.
