The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Scope of Position:

  • Process Engineering Technician supporting optical system assembly & test.
  • The scope of this role will be to engage in new and existing production methods required to meet daily production schedules.
  • Process development is accomplished in a consistent, standardized manner utilizing a knowledge center of standard methodologies and DF/X methodologies.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily production support to resolve process upsets.
  • Identify and assist in process improvements to reduce cost, increase capacity, and extend capability
  • Work with process engineering to introduce new products into the production system.
  • Author documentation and provide training to operations associates.
  • Engage with multiple plant departments (process engineering, operations associates, quality, supply chain, etc.) each day to ensure operations needs are met.
  • Collaborate with the quality team to help respond to customer complaints and returns.
  • Assess existing manufacturing capability gaps and recommend development activities.
  • Perform manufacturing tasks and activities, as trained, and in compliance with workplace standards.
  • Responsible for housekeeping and autonomous maintenance of work area and equipment.

Education & Experience:

  • We require a minimum of an Associates of Science Degree
  • We are seeking 0 to 5 years, Internships/Co-ops a plus
  • Able to effectively work with production groups and division engineering.
  • Mechanical, Optical, or Industrial Engineering training.
  • Previous experience in technical manufacturing and process support.
  • Individuals applying for this position must be team oriented and able to work collaboratively with others.

  • Prioritize and multi-task
  • Performance excellence training and project leadership a plus - Green Belt, Lean, or PQA experience.

Travel Requirements:

  • We anticipate less than 5% travel for this role. Typical travel includes special training/networking opportunities and potential customer and vendor visits.

Hours of work:

  • Typical first shift production hours, M-F, 8am-5pm. Evening and weekend support as needed.
