Role Purpose
Shape the future of advanced optical metrology as a Metrology Development Software Engineer in Corning’s Advanced Optics group based in Rochester, NY. You will work on innovation in metrology for high-precision optical systems by developing and optimizing software algorithms for metrology systems for mirrors, lenses, and freeform optics used in next-generation semiconductor inspection systems. You will also be working on automation control systems and implementing ML/AI tools for metrology. The engineer in this role will develop software that enables and advances optical metrology systems and processes. This role focuses on creating new PC-based automation and control software as well as implementing data processing algorithms that improve measurement capability. The engineer will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of optical, mechanical, and software engineers to design and implement software that supports next-generation optical metrology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement data processing algorithms and workflows in collaboration with and under guidance from metrology development team
- Develop PC-based automation and control software for integrating cameras, motion stages, sensors, and other instrumentation
- Develop tools for data analysis, visualization, and reporting of optical measurement results
- Develop monitoring software and ML/AI tools for measurement process quality controls.
- Document software designs, algorithms, and development work
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, physics, engineering, mathematics, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in trigonometry, linear algebra, calculus, and mathematical reasoning in general.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Python, C#, or C++
- Clear communicator, active listener, and effective presenter of complex topics to diverse audiences
- Strong understanding of software development fundamentals and object-oriented programming
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with interest in developing technical solutions
- Eagerness to learn about complex processes and grow technical skills
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Basic knowledge of PC-based control systems and software-hardware integration
- Experience with micro service architecture design and implementation
- Experience building desktop applications in .NET and Python (WPF, QT, etc.)
- Familiarity with Git and code revision tooling
- Experience in writing optical metrology software
- Experience with scientific data visualization: creating charts, plots, graphics, and presentations
- Willingness to do occasional hands-on work with optical/mechanical systems
Workplace Parameters
- Travel Requirements: < 10%. Primarily domestic travel.
- Hours of Work/Work Schedule/Flex-Time: 40+ hours per week, + flex

The range for this position is $69,372.00 - $95,387.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
