Scope of Position:

• Provide engineering and project leadership to a variety of technical problems related to Facility, Mechanical, HVAC, Cleanroom, and Electrical systems and processes. Interact with multiple departments and different levels of personnel to gather VOC, develop the Project Initiation (PI) sheet, and then the Scope of Work (SOW) for each project.

• Specify, review, analyze, and/or commission systems, equipment and facilities.

• Engage appropriate resources to design, plan, and support projects.

• Influence long term thinking and planning when engaged in reviewing proposed facility changes or improvements.

• Provide visible leadership to coordinate, schedule, and communicate project activities.

• Provide firm leadership to ensure a safe work environment and minimal process disruption to the customer’s during maintenance and project activities.

• Work in collaboratively with Corning Program Managers, equipment suppliers, facility managers, and other project partners, as well as the group director and customer organizations management teams.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Deliver strong project leadership skills through the project initiation, planning, implementation and closeout phases.

• Develop project concepts, scopes, estimates, schedules, design, installation & startup documentation.

• Exercise good judgment, sound engineering principles and utilize structured problem-solving techniques.

• Lead, guide, coach & help develop internal Corning & contingent employees as well as external contractors.

• Actively work and participate in project teams in various roles and capacities.

• Lead new equipment design projects to ensure timely drawing completion, material sourcing, fabrication, testing, shipment, and installation/commissioning.

• Comprehend and apply sound engineering principles in the design of thermally functioning process equipment.

• Application of engineering principles primarily in the fields of mechanical design, cleanroom design, HVAC, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.

• Use of numerical and physical modeling.

• Collaborate with scientists and process specialists as part of the engineering process.

• Collaboration with manufacturing operations to further define and receive new and modified process equipment.

• Observe and define incremental process equipment improvements.

• Lead small design teams, conduct manufacturing experiments, evaluate vendors / suppliers.

• Equipment installation supervision and on-site commissioning as required.

 

Required Education:

• We require a minimum of a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

• We are seeking 1-3 years of engineering & professional work experience

• Excellent project leadership, engineering, installation and start-up skills

• Able to trouble shoot and solve problems

• Problem solving skills and the use of structured methods; such as, K-T (DA, PPA, RA), DESGN & DMAIC

• Excellent communication and social skills

• Excellent presentation skills

• Construction, facility system knowledge & experience

• Project estimating, forecasting and scheduling experience

• Proficiency with MS Office (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

 

Desired Skills:

• Proficient in AutoCad, Solidworks, or similar CAD software

• MS Project & SharePoint

• Lean Construction techniques

• Optical manufacturing

• CNC equipment

• Professional Engineering Certification

Travel Requirements:

• We anticipate less than 10% travel for this role, most travel is limited to immediate surrounding area

 

Hours of Work:

• Normal Business Hours (8 – 5, M – F): however, expected to work hours required to achieve objectives. Flexibility is required.

• Includes overtime, weekend and off-shift hours.
