The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Scope of Position:

  • Provide facilities technical support to engineers involved in the construction, maintenance, and repairs of utility systems, buildings, and grounds.
  • Engage appropriate resources to plan, implement, or support projects
  • Provide visible leadership to coordinate, schedule, and communicate project activities.
  • Provide firm leadership to ensure a safe work environment and minimal process disruption to partners during maintenance and project activities.
  • Work collaboratively with department managers, equipment suppliers, facility managers, and other project partners, as well as the group director and customer organizations management teams.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Handle facilities processes and systems to support effective and safe equipment installation and facility projects.
  • Develop project concepts, scopes, estimates, schedules, design, installation & startup documentation.
  • Exercise good judgment, sound facilities principles and apply structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Actively work and participate in project teams in various roles and capacities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing operations to further define and receive new and modified process equipment.
  • Observe and define incremental facilities improvements.
  • Lead small design teams, conduct manufacturing experiments, and evaluate contractors vendors, or equipment manufacturers / fabricators.
  • Equipment installation supervision and on-site start-up and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment and advise Maintenance and Engineering on repairs, preventive maintenance, and short or long-term asset management.

Education & Experience:

  • We require a minimum of an Associate's Degree.
  • We are seeking 1+ years of facilities support & professional work experience.
  • Excellent facilities coordination; can include project leadership, engineering, installation and start-up skills.
  • Able to trouble shoot and solve problems.
  • Excellent communication and social skills.
  • Construction, facility system knowledge & experience.
  • Project estimating, forecasting and scheduling experience.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings, plans, and schematics.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with AutoCAD and Solidworks (or other equivalent CAD software).
  • Experience with MS Office applications. Proficient in MS Project (or other scheduling software).
  • Problem solving skills and the use of structured methods; such as, K-T (DA, PPA, RA), DESGN & DMAIC.

Travel Requirements:

  • We anticipate less than 10% travel for this role. Most travel is limited to immediate surrounding area with occasional travel to manufacturers to checkout equipment, benchmark facilities, or other relevant project work.

Hours of Work:

  • Flexibility is required. Normal Business Hours (8 – 5, M – F): however, expected to work hours required to achieve objectives including overtime, weekend and off-shift hours.
