Scope of Position

Devise comprehensive test methods to measure, analyze and optimize complex lens assemblies and optical modules. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within multi-disciplined project teams that analyze, engineer & build lens systems from conception to completion. 
  • Design optical test methods to align and qualify complex optical systems for imaging, non-imaging and metrology systems. 
  • Collaborate with software, electrical and mechanical engineers to design and integrate fully functional metrology equipment/test benches. 
  • Create and document metrology methods and procedures for transfer to manufacturing. 
  • Train manufacturing personnel to execute measurement and optimization tasks. 
  • Work locations are currently split between Fairport Plant and Penfield Engineering headquarters; personal transportation between sites (10 min drive) is expected depending upon project responsibilities
  • 10%, domestic & international. Typical travel includes training, networking opportunities, customer visits, conferences, tradeshows, and benchmarking activities as required. 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Optics or Physics is desired, Master of Science. a plus. 
  • 2-5 years in designing or testing precision optical systems. Experience in UV a plus, as is industrial experience in semiconductor fabrication and/or inspection.
  • Ability to function on a product development team of multi-disciplinary engineers. 
  • Experience and understanding of geometrical optics and optical test methods. (interferometry, wavefront sensing, aerial image analysis, radiometry, polarization/polarimetry, etc) 
  • Experience with autocollimation / alignment telescopes, optical and mechanical alignment techniques, precision spindles and goniometers electro-optics, precision mechanics. 
  • Familiarity with complex lasers (solid state, frequency doubling and sum frequency generation, excimer, IR amplifier, etc) and their alignment is a plus, as is familiarity with the safe use of lasers. 
  • Familiarity with optical modeling software (lens design, image analysis & interferometry), cameras and detectors, image analysis software. 
  • Proficiency in Excel is required.  Proficiency in Matlab, Python, and other analytical software applications is desired.   Optical design software proficiency (Zemax, Code V, Light Tools, FRED) is a plus. 
  • Must have strong laboratory skills working in a clean room environment. 
  • Must have strong presentation and technical writing skills to enable communication within the program team and with internal and external customers

The range for this position is  $89,634.00   -  $123,247.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
