The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. The purpose of the Optical Software Intern Program is to set a higher standard on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for immediate and future needs.

Corning Advanced Optics is an industry leader in the manufacture of high precision optical systems for lithography and inspection applications, metrology measurement tools and laser components. This is an exciting company with complete in-house design engineering, fabrication, and testing fields.

Scope of Role:

  • Summer intern position to support the manufacturing and engineering of premier, high-precision optical systems in Corning's Advanced Optics division.
  • This internship is for students with strengths and interests in the intersection of optics, math, and computer science.
  • Primary duties will involve developing or refining data-analysis algorithms, design-optimization software, or graphical user interfaces for real-time metrology-bench data processing.

Education & Experience:

  • We are seeking a BS, MS, or PhD candidate, having completed at least three years' higher education.
  • We need optics coursework in geometrical optics, physical optics, and interferometry.
  • Math coursework in multivariable calculus and linear algebra.
  • Experience with engineering or scientific calculations, using MATLAB or Python.

 

Duration:

  • Summer 2022, 8-12 weeks
