SCOPE/PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

This position is responsible for providing technical customer support and gaining deep applications understanding of key accounts for Corning’s Precision Optics business acting as the interface between internal engineering teams and the customer.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop deep understanding of Corning’s precision optics products, including critical product specifications, manufacturing processes with a focus on customer integration and use cases.
  • Utilize optics background to dive into customer applications, understand challenges and product requirements as well as technology roadmaps to identify new business opportunities.
  • Provide front-line support for customer inquiries related to a broad portfolio of existing products. Evaluate new inquiries against existing capabilities, coordinating with engineering and development resources as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with global customer account and business/regional leaders to develop relationships within customer’s engineering, development, and operations organizations to advance Corning’s business position, increase customer satisfaction and collect market intelligence to ensure long term growth.
  • Work actively with internal operations, engineering, and development groups to represent or interpret customer viewpoint and identify win-win strategies in support of cost reduction, lead time reduction, and performance improvements.
  • Analyze and articulate product performance including reliability, yields, risk assessments to improve business performance. Requires leading efforts to develop new methodologies, collect and interpret data, and report out to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to the customer in response to product or process change requests, quality issues, and operational escalations in a timely manner.
  • Participate or lead regional effort in new/next-generation project development

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Physics, Optical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Master’s degree (MS) in Optics or Engineering or Material Science preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in applications or product engineering role
  • Knowledge of semiconductor or related industry, preferably in a customer supporting role
  • Experience working in an optical engineering role with direct involvement in optical design.
  • Excellent internal/external communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas, tailoring communication to given audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize complex specification and application requirements and articulate to internal/external stakeholders to initiate new product development or implement product changes.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively within internal cross functional teams within a matrix organization.
  • Customer-oriented with a strong desire to solve problems.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with commercial and engineering teams.
  • Proven experience effectively prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and work objectives.
  • Well-organized and able to work independently in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to influence cross-function organizations, such as commercial, engineering and development.
  • Strong technical acumen and commercially driven.
  • Desire to “roll up sleeves” to work directly with customers and internal project teams.

 

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Strong fundamental understanding of optics and optical systems.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor inspection equipment.
  • Experience handling effective specification negotiations.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering as well as product and process change management.
  • Ability to engage and build relationships with different levels of internal and external organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing a globally based and multi-disciplinary team.

 

TRAVEL:

  • Up to 25% – Both domestic and international.

The range for this position is $96,254.00 - $132,349.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
