Day to Day Responsibilities:
To lead, plan, and support work streams and tasks related to measurement and process engineering activities in Advanced Optics (AO) Fuzhou, including but not limited to:
• Focus on measurement and inspection systems, methods, to:
o Contribute to the establishment of new metrology as required; develop new gauge, equipment, algorithm, and software; migrate/transfer technologies from corporate R&D to production.
o Support new product introduction (NPI). Determine or improvise appropriate metrology tools, fixtures, processing, and related integration flows.
To provide data to ensure processes are in control and capable to meet customer specifications and requirements.
Define requirements for equipment calibration, maintenance, and process flow integration of both metrology and processing tools.
• Focus on process engineering activities in the production line,
o Provide leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines.
o Understand process quality architecture internal/external risks, assure quality and repeatability of processes and products.
o Prepare and update process documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, and measurement protocols, provide technical support and training to production staff on process and equipment operation.
o Design experiments and analyze data to identify and implement improvements to the metrology systems or process.
Support process issue mitigation and improvement through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with other SMEs.
Provide trend analysis of key metrics and implement response plans. Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions.
Recommend/implement improvements to processes and equipment.
o Lead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products/processes.
Education & Experience
• Required: BS/MS/PhD in electrical/mechanical/chemical engineering, optics, physics or equivalent scientific discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering or technical role in a D&E or Engineering environment. Preference will be given to candidates in system development, optical metrology equipment, optical fabrication, and/or related manufacturing.
Required Skills
• Self-motivated. Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly.
• Knowledge of optics, basic optomechanical system design, optical inspection and test systems, as well as basic electrical systems.
• Knowledgeable in analysis skill
o Demonstrated problem solving through troubleshooting or predictive guidance on product/process engineering.
o Good mathematical skills including algorithm development in data/image processing and analysis.
o Skillful in at least one high-level programming such as MATLAB, or other commercial package for data/image analysis and processing, or equipment automation.
o Capable of making sound decisions by blending analytical thinking with balancing judgment on the practical boundaries or constraints.
• Well organized with interpersonal and communication skills to influence others.
o Good presentation skills.
o Good communication skills in English and Chinese.
o Demonstrated executing project start-up.
o Swift judgement and action under ambiguity and related risk.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Desired Skills
• Working knowledge of metrology equipment used to measure and inspect glass
• Experience with computer-based measurement or automation equipment setup and support
• Experience with Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Measurement Uncertainty Analysis
• Experience with optical manufacturing, including assembly process & device testing
• Experience in manufacturing environment
• Experience in process engineering
• Working knowledge of Matlab, Minitab, or other mathematical/statistical analysis tools
• Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC project experience
Soft Skills
• Confident at interacting and communicating across varying groups and management levels.
• Able to lead and work in a team environment to solve problems and drive progress.
• Able to lead project teams or provide technical leadership in a larger program.
• Confident presentation skills – ability to tailor message to the audience.
