Role Purpose

The Automation Engineer will play a key role in optimizing and maintaining advanced automation systems within our solar manufacturing operations. This position focuses on programming, troubleshooting, and improving robotic and PLC-controlled equipment to maximize uptime and efficiency. Working extensively with ABB robotic systems, the engineer will enhance control logic, implement hardware improvements, and support automation upgrades that enable scalable, high-performance production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot automated control systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA) across multiple production lines.
  • Work extensively with ABB robots and other automation equipment to improve performance and reliability.
  • Analyze and optimize PLC logic, implement changes to improve equipment uptime and operational efficiency.
  • Support hardware improvements and automation upgrades to enhance system capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Process, Equipment, Maintenance, Quality) to identify automation opportunities and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Lead or support installation and commissioning of new equipment and automation systems.
  • Perform root cause analysis of recurring automation issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including electrical diagrams, control logic, and SOPs.
  • Train maintenance and production personnel on system operations and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical and safety codes and company standards.
  • Provides day-to-day problem solving support to production, development and research operations
  • Trains operators and trades personnel on new equipment and processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 3+ years of automation engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial networking.
  • Hands-on experience with ABB robotic systems.
  • Familiarity with sensors, actuators, servo systems, and machine vision systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in high-speed, high-precision automated production systems.
  • Prior work in solar cell/module manufacturing or other clean energy technologies.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Mandarin language skills for collaboration with global suppliers and technical partners.

The range for this position is $88,059.00 - $121,082.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
