Purpose of Position:

• Provide leadership in metrology engineering and precision measurement to support customer requirements, new product development, and overall business goals

• Convert customer and internal specifications into the necessary measurement methodologies to meet expectations

• Anticipate future metrology requirements through the continual evaluation of technologies based on customer and internal requirements

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Owner of the overall metrology department and processes following current good GD&T practices while measurement traceability, equipment safe operation, maintenance, and calibration

• Supervise the metrology department staff to include such items as time reporting, work schedules, and effective working process

• Ensure metrology processes and techniques are properly documented (and reflect current operations) and the staff is properly trained in all aspects of their job along with implementing continual education programs for both the staff and yourself

• Provide technical assistance in installation, qualification, daily operation, and maintenance of the metrology equipment

• Maintain and improve the plant’s equipment and operator qualification program using the latest MSA and Gauge R&R methodologies.

• Create programs for both AOI and CMM platforms meet product acceptance measurement requirements, providing data analysis and reporting

• Work directly with internal customers to establish metrology control plans and the scheduling of products throughout the various measurement processes

• Serve as an advocate for safe operations within the Metrology team with all preventative maintenance and interim performance verification activities of the metrology equipment

• As a global SME in Metrology, advise and support the metrology operations within our global manufacturing facilities

 

Required Skills:

• Software data analysis such as MATLAB, JMP, etc., statistic knowledge in data analysis: standard deviation, mean, statistical agreement tests, data transformation, trend identification, regression analysis, curve fitting, etc.

• Knowledge of metrology fundamentals: MSA, metrological traceability, and calibration

• Awareness of national and international standards relating to dimensional metrology and measurement uncertainty (e.g., ISO GPS and ASME B89)

• English writing and speaking fluency as well awareness of global cultural behaviors

• Operating the metrology of Keyence, CMM, Zeiss, OGP or other coordinate metrology software packages

 

Soft Skills:

• Knowledge of Solid Works and similar CAD software packages

• Ambition and ability to independently fill gaps in knowledge and expertise through self-guided learning

• Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities

• Highly motivated with a sense of urgency, keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to drive tasks to closure

• Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of organization

• Ability to present data and analysis in both verbal and written/graphical form that broad audiences can understand

• Ability to identify root cause of problems to enable effective corrective action

• Desire to exceed internal customer expectations for quality and delivery. Ambition and ability to independently fill gaps in knowledge and expertise through self-guided learning

• Supervisory experience

 

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree (engineering / technical preferred).

• 3-5 + years’ experience in industrial or research-based metrology is helpful but directly applicable advanced education and/or research may be substituted for work experience.

 

Travel Requirements:

• We anticipate less than 5% travel for this role

 

Hours of Work:

• 8:00am-5:00pm typically (with some flexibility)
