The global Human Resource (HR) Function provides an integrated talent management system that delivers a workforce that is Corning's competitive differentiator in the global marketplace.

HR provides service offerings that align solutions to business challenges by ensuring the programs are Effective, Efficient, Global, Scaleable, and Repeatable.  Corning’s Values are operationalized by the HR Function through the facilitation of Talent Management offerings, as well as programs and processes that aid in making Corning’s Values visible.

 

Purpose of the Position:

  • Ensures client group has the right number and type of talent required to execute division strategy and achieve desired business results;
  • Ensures client group realizes required levels of employee productivity and performance excellence required to execute division strategy and achieve desired business results;
  • Ensures client group establishes and maintains a positive work environment and operates as‚ One Corning‚ in support of Corning Values;
  • Assists in achieving or beating budgetary objectives in support of top quartile performance objectives while maintaining appropriate level of HR service delivery;
  • Scales the type and level of HR service provided to client groups in anticipation of the specific needs of the division‚ business portfolio and in conjunction with the business strategy;
  • Ensures the successful implementation of global HR business processes within the client group

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: 

  • Identifies and prioritizes current and future talent requirements of the client which could affect achievement of client group operational objectives
  • Partners with Division HR Manager/Director and client business team to identify and implement a compelling employee value proposition that enables them to attract and retain the number and type of talent required to close talent gaps
  • Partners with Division HR Manager/Director to take actions required to address talent gaps, ensuring the division has the right people in the right place at the right time
  • Partners with client group to identify and implement targeted client group and individual development plans that address targeted talent gaps in a timely manner
  • Effectively deploys performance management and rewards processes/practices within client group to drive required levels of employee accountability for desired performance results and ensure retention of top performers
  • Holds client managers and leaders accountable for establishing and maintaining positive work environment
  • In partnership with Division HR Manager/Director, identifies the client group‚ human capital priorities over the next one to two years and the type and level of support required from HR to effectively address these priorities
  • Effectively deploys HR shared service delivery model in support of HR transformational goals and required levels of client support

 

Direct reports: 1 HR Specialist

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources, Business, Organization Development or Labor Relations or equivalent qualification/experience
  • At least 5-8 years of HR experience (generalist/specialist) or equivalent
  • First line supervision/experience
  • Work experience in designing and implementing effective organization structures and work processes that improve client group ability to achieve desired results‚ new business/product start up or expansion and mature business optimization

 

Required Skills

HR Technical Expertise (BUHR)

  • Knows what HR services and procedures to implement to address specific client group needs
  • Develops a network of contacts within HR to facilitate satisfaction of business needs 
  • Acquires and demonstrates a detailed understanding of specific HR processes for which they lead the deployment within the client group (e.g., human capital planning, compensation planning, etc.)
  • Uses sound change management skills to build acceptance, buy-in, understanding and commitment for initiatives implemented within the client group
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of labor law and regulatory requirements

 

HR Service Orientation (BUHR) 

  • Actively looks for opportunities to maintain or improve quality of service and delivery while decreasing the cost of HR services at a division level
  • Looks at HR service delivery through the eyes of the customer to identify ways to improve service quality and business impact
  • Proactively and effectively works with COEs to ensure COEs design and deliver services that meet client group‚ business needs
  • Leverages COEs and outsource providers to allow client group HR staff to focus more on strategic HR work, rather than tactical work
  • Partners with leaders in client group and Division HR Manager/Director to assess satisfaction with HR services and understand how they can more effectively meet needs of their customer
  • Takes the time to find out what customers want and need, stated or unstated
  • Makes and delivers on commitments to resolve customer issues and address customer needs
  • Demonstrates genuine concern to customers when decisions or organizational performance creates difficulties for them

 

Basic Project Management Skills & Practices

  • Defines project scope, business case, deliverables, budget, timing and resource needs in conjunction with customer to balance customer and employee needs and capabilities
  • Analyzes and evaluates project cost return to make appropriate investment decisions - Overseas deployment of internal and external resources to deliver solutions
  • Identifies and contracts with resources required to develop and deliver solutions (expertise and availability)

 

Business Acumen

  • Understands the budgeting process for division, how to interpret the division‚ financial statements, and how HR services impact the division‚ profit and loss statement
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the HR Function‚ financials
  • Identifies major industry trends and issues affecting Corning and the client group and shapes HR services to address them

 

Organizational Agility

  • Understands the governing bodies within HR and knows who to go to secure the appropriate type and level of HR service required to address business needs
  • Understands client group goals and objectives and uses this knowledge to ensure deployment of HR programs and processes fully support achievement of goals and objectives
  • Focuses effort on the critical human capital priorities that will advance achievement of the client group‚ business goals and objectives

 

Problem Solving

  • Draws on appropriate information from a variety of resources to help define the client problem and drive data-based decision making 
  • Selects appropriate analyses, tools, frameworks, and technologies to be applied in solving problems
  • Identifies potential modifications to tools and processes which will increase efficiency and responsiveness to client group needs
  • Probes for needed specificity and works to clarify an issue or situation

 

Travel Requirements

  • May require travel up to 25% to corporate headquarters based on business need.  Travel will be to Corning, NY headquarters and to Charlotte, NC
