Scope of Position:

  • Reporting directly to the plant quality manager, this position promotes a culture of quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement throughout a high-tech plant environment that is a leader in the RF connector arena. Production environments include precision machining of optical array components, RF connector housing fabrication, plating, precision component fabrication, and precision assembly.
  • This position is responsible for effective application and development of the plant quality management systems (QMS) and associated improvement efforts through significant individual contributions and leadership of a team of QC inspectors and metrology personnel.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support plant production in a multi-shift environment by supervising a team of quality inspectors to maintain and advance key aspects of the plant QMS with focus on customer and vendor FAIs, organizational management, and accurate documentation.
  • Maintain inspection and test capabilities, equipment, and facilities to include overall supervision of metrology and calibration.
  • Work with plant quality manager and extended staff to set and implement short- and long-term objectives aimed at achieving plant goals around responsiveness, cost, quality, WIP, and safety.
  • Lead projects aimed at continuous improvement and reducing manufacturing variability; project teams will include technical members from peripheral groups (operations, information technology, engineering, development, supply chain, etc.).
  • Create and present regular reporting on status on inspection WIP, investigations, root cause corrective actions to the plant staff and product line management.
  • Assist and support in maintaining/achieving relevant quality system registrations (ISO9001) and AS91000 standards, to include qualifying to perform internal audits.
  • Perform technical reviews of documentation, SOPs, and specifications, including providing input during new document package releases, as well as changes to existing packages.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operators to maintain and improve statistical process control program
  • Provide input on changes to existing products and processes where form, fit, function, or regulatory compliance potentially impacts internal manufacturing or external customers.
  • Provide leadership for key aspects of the QMS to ensure they are effective and aligned with internal and external customer expectations, corporate requirements, and industry specific standards.
  • Assign objectives and tasks to team; provide guidance on task priority to ensure team is focused on the appropriate tasks if conflicts arise.
  • Assure growth in talent and capability of group, including self.
  • Build an effective internal network including engineering, operations, commercial, division quality, and global supply management.
  • Translate customer requirements into quality standards and daily work activities.

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering or Science
  • minimum of 5+ years quality, engineering or operations experience within a manufacturing environment -  Aerospace & Defense preferred. At least 3+ years of managerial or supervisory experience, with the ability to effectively coach, mentor, and lead direct reports, providing clear direction and establishing expectations.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge base in all aspects of Quality including validation, calibration, and quality control.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office tools, electronic document management and ERP systems.
  • Structured problem solving experience (DMAIC, 6-Sigma, Lean, Shainin).
  • Data analysis skills using statistical analysis software to chart and interpret data to make decisions / understand relationships.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Database programming and querying skills, knowledge of SAP, Power Bi, FWD is preferred.
  • Ability to develop powerful spreadsheets, or experienced in KT, TOC, or TRIZ tools.

 

Hours of Work:

  • 8AM-5PM typical over two shift operation. Schedule should be flexible to allow for occasional interaction across multiple shifts from 6AM to 11PM.
  • Team works overtime one Saturday per month and as needed other weekends dependent on overtime levels.  Some hours may be required during weekend.

 

Travel:

  • Less than 10%

The range for this position is $112,328.00 - $154,451.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
