New Product Introduction Engineer

Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

  • Track and facilitate all aspects of new product launch into a pilot line facility and then into High Volume Manufacturing
  • Execute and monitor new product introduction builds to drive improvements
  • Bridge the gap between customer requirements and the manufacturing community, defining manufacturing capability and strategy for execution of new product lines.
  • Acquire working device physics understanding sufficient to understand, approve, and facilitate the development of future opto-electronic devices.
  • Work on cross-functional teams at multiple locations using both internal and external resources. Significant interaction with key stakeholders in R&D, process integration, test engineering, reliability, and quality groups is expected.
  • Publish progress reports on product readiness to stakeholders

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead team meetings to facilitate communication between organizations and functions as required to meet program timing objectives.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to ensure systems and equipment are on schedule.
  • Support design and process optimization efforts.
  • Document best practices and drive continuous improvements.
  • Develop and implement missing product engineering disciplines and infrastructure gaps.
  • Enable successful new product introduction by driving development & manufacturing organization through disciplined, phase gate process to define product and manufacturing readiness.
  • Define, document, and support new product roadmap.
  • Cross-functional translation of new customer product requirements into internal manufacturing product requirements document. Drive manufacturing and development organizations to achieve these requirements.
  • Bridges the technical gap between Development, Division Engineering, Manufacturing, Commercial, and the customer to ensure the division’s global product specifications meet the needs of all parties. May work with Applications Engineering in fulfilling this responsibility.
  • Ensure successful characterization of new products, defining production test plans and launching new products into production (EVT, DVT, PVT).
  • Work with cross-functional team including manufacturing, commercial, environmental, & quality to ensure that all required certifications are acquired, new product can be sold and manufacturing ramp achieved.
  • Interface with Design, Test, Manufacturing, Reliability, Applications, Foundry and Marketing groups to identify opportunities, drive projects to completion, and verify effectiveness.

 

Travel Requirements (please note if international):

  • Up to 25%, potential of occasional international Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
  • 40 plus hours to support 24 by 7 operation

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

  • BS in Physics, Electrical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering or Related Discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in semiconductor or MEMs manufacturing, including some Product Engineering experience

 

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)

  • High volume manufacturing experience required.
  • Proficient in data analysis and presentation tools such as MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, Matlab, JMP, or other similar software tools
  • 10+ years in semiconductor or MEMs manufacturing, including some product engineering or NPI experience
  • Experience in high volume semiconductor or MEMs manufacturing.
  • Experience with semiconductor product qualification (validation and verification.)
  • Proficient with data analysis tools such as JMP or Minitab

 

Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess)

  • M.S. or equivalent technical degree.
  • >5 years semiconductor process experience
  • DOE, SPC and other statistical tools.
  • Six Sigma, Green Belt, Lean.
  • Prior work on both development and manufacturing teams is desirable.
  • Experience with product drawings, GD&T, and required software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)
