Purpose of the Position:

  • Support production of 24 hours melting operation with solid engineering principles focused on process optimization and continuous improvement
  • Ensure process stability and support daily operations
  • Customer satisfaction target achievement

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Ensure daily safe and stable operation to check process with operators in detail
  • Take 1st level trouble shooting and fix process instability on daily operations with other functions in plant
  • Perform daily engineering oversight and support of production
  • Technical analysis of melting and forming processes.  Application of analytical results to improving processes and meeting customer requirements
  • Coordinate line activity with peripheral services (maintenance, etc.) and downstream processes
  • Daily interaction with the operators and production leadership
  • Lead melting defect troubleshooting with collaboration with Division engineering
  • Training of production personnel
  • Consult and report out timely to upper level engineering any potential issue
  • Upgrade SOP and support operations for safety improvement, efficiency improvement, process variation reduction, training for key process
  • Focus to meet engineering targets set by upper organization / plant
  • Focus on furnace repairing and downtime management. Involved in tank life strategy development
  • Involve and support any plant level project such as start-up, equipment upgrade, new technology, process improvement, etc.
  • Support developments in equipment design and new process that can improve or enhance the current process capabilities

 Project involved with:

  • Support plant start-up project
  • Any plant engineering project during day to day operations
  • Lead or coordinate the plant-level cost reduction projects.

 

 Reporting Structure:

  • Immediate Supervisor: Division Engineering Manager

 

Education or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 5-10 years glass melting / forming experience preferably in tubing operation


Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal

 

Required Skills:

  • Technically curious – seeks information needed to succeed in becoming a glass melting expert
  • Strong technical skills – understanding of mechanical engineering to apply to defect formation mechanisms, understanding of heat and mass transfer, understanding of materials thermodynamics and kinetics
  • Analytical skills – ability to use rigorous data analysis and distill into concise results
  • Problem-solving skills – ability to handle technical challenges using scientific methodology
  • MS Office computing skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
     

Desired Skills:

  • Understanding of glass chemistry and properties
  • Glass making, ceramic or other materials processing experience
  • Continuous manufacturing process experience
  • New product/process development or scale up experience
  • Statistical analysis skills and/or experimental design experience
  • Project leadership skills – vision, planning, and execution
