The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Scope of Position:

  • To provide electrical & controls support for glass melting and forming production processes.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • The position involves working with Process and Controls Engineering in the application of electrical and controls concepts to identify, design and implement continuous improvement / cost reduction projects. Daily production support involving troubleshooting, problem solving and working with the equipment maintenance organization in a union environment will be required.

 

Role within group:

  • Rebuild Support, Production Support, Project Support, and process electrical & controls.
  • Support Projects:
    • Rebuild, continuous improvement and cost reduction projects as well as first generation projects for the Harrodsburg Plant.
    • Projects will involve IFIX SCADA, software, OSI PI, Rockwell CLX controls, Servo/VFD applications and/or electrical power solutions.

 

Education:

  • BS Electrical Engineering or BS Electrical Engineering Technology degree.
  • Willing to consider 10+ years of electrical/controls experience in lieu of degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

 

Desired Technical Skills:

  • Strong technical curiosity, leadership skills (specs, scopes, budget, timeline, etc.), and the ability/desire to learn as well as train others.
  • IFIX/RTP/OSI PI and VBA and/or Structured Text Programming knowledge/experience
  • Experience/Knowledge working with Rockwell CLX (RS Studio), Servo, and VFD systems to include Powerflex and Kinetix Servo drives
  • Controls/Electrical Experience in Manufacturing
  • Broad skill set (first principal design to implementation/installation) of electrical and controls systems.
  • Working knowledge of voltages up to and including 480V, 3 phase power systems including sizing circuit breakers, wire, transformers
  • Working knowledge and compliance of National Codes and Standards to include but not limited to (NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79)
  • AutoCAD. Ability to understand and draft electrical schematics and develop panel layouts.
  • Lead field support teams during the installation and checkout of new technology and designs.
  • Ability to solve difficult process problems and determine root cause through process experimentation and data analysis.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Project Leadership experience developing specification, scope, budget, schedule, and risk assessment/management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate engineering concepts and interpret data to influence decisions and direct others.
  • Seeks out production supervisors, peers, and operators to gain process understanding. Listens to their concerns and seeks resolution within the functional area.
  • Proficient in technical writing and developing technical documentation
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Self-starting, Self-directed and ability to create direction
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to plan upfront, communicate issues, and execute solutions quickly and efficiently.

 

Work Hours

  • Workhours are M-F 08:00 to 17:00 with 1 hour for lunch
  • 24-hour production support on an emergency basis
  • The plant has weekend teams that rotate coverage (six or seven weekends per year, including one major holiday or one to two minor holidays)
  • Extended hours, including weekends, are required during start-ups or special projects

The range for this position is  $85,524.00   -  $117,596.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
