The purpose of the Intern Program is to raise the bar on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for immediate and future needs.


Purpose of this position:

To work as a Summer Engineering Intern to further his/her understanding and education around electrical/controls engineering interests.

Scope of Role:

  • Works with more senior engineers to improves product, process and/or equipment performance (cost, quality and service) and/or advances the innovation process to enable the delivery of new products.
  • We are looking for candidates with a strong level of technical curiosity who can deliver creative solutions to technical challenges. Applicants should have the ability to work in a team-based environment and be able to participate as an individual contributor. Work will include project and process activities.
  • We will focus on a multitude of technologies, including robotics, motion control, vision, and PAC/PLC. A major focus for this position is on electrical and controls equipment design and build, software design, implementation and testing for equipment engineered for specific processes, specifications for control systems for new equipment engineered for specific processes as well as upgrades to improve existing equipment performance as well as processes as well as debugging of existing equipment being used in various processes.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Corning engineering team in evaluations of electrical systems, products, components, and process applications by applying fundamental engineering knowledge.
  • Assist in the development of control and software systems by helping to design and modify equipment for manufacturing.
  • Assists in the preparation of production reporting by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests
  • Maintains product and company reputation by following federal and state regulations
  • Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures.
  • Contributes to team effort by the work you're doing. Direct and dotted line reports


Required Education & Experience:

  • We are seeking a Junior or Senior in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering Major, or an equivalent technical degree in Electrical and Software Engineering.
  • Self-motivated and self-starter who is results oriented and can work independently with high commitment / energy
  • Familiar with electromechanical systems of various kinds
  • MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Familiar with Allen Bradley software a plus (ControlLogix, RSLogix, RSLinx, Panelview, etc.).
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical/electronic troubleshooting
  • Familiar with electronic testing design
  • Quality focused
  • Capable of analyzing information
  • Reporting research and testing results
