Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.


Scope of Position:

Engineering support for equipment troubleshooting and repairs, continuous improvement, and cost reduction projects as well as first generation projects support and receivership for the Harrodsburg Plant. Emphasis in Mechanical projects will involve usage of AutoCAD and SolidWorks design software also pneumatic controls solutions.


Role within group:

  • Production Support of automated glass processing and handling equipment at the Bottom of the Draw.
  • Project Support: team member assignment in a Mechanical engineer role.
  • Mechanical equipment Rebuild Support.
  • Some Logistics and Packaging Support projects.
  • Small project leadership under guidance.
  • Drafting Support on document processing, management, standards policies.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily third level production support involving troubleshooting, problem solving and working with the Operations and equipment maintenance organizations.
  • Provide Mechanical Engineering support for product packaging and shipping equipment.
  • Work with other Engineering personnel to learn existing and install newly designed equipment and automated systems.
  • Work with Production, Process and Equipment Engineering personnel in the application of equipment solutions and design concepts to implement continuous improvement/cost reduction projects.
  • Potential to lead small projects including design, funding, trades coordination, and documentation.
  • Participate on weekend team with duties to report on production lines performance and follow- ups in support of Operations, about 6 to 8 weekends annually.



  • We require a BS, Mechanical Engineering degree with a GPA 3.0 or above
  • We are seeking 1-3 years of related experience in manufacturing or Mechanical fields. Relevant internships also considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of individual mechanical components, devices, materials, tooling, and pneumatic systems.
  • Solve equipment/process issues and determine root cause through evaluation and data analysis in a 24x7 manufacturing environment.
  • Capable of understanding and executing to specifications, scopes, budget, and timeline.
  • Ability to plan upfront, communicate roadblocks, and execute solutions quickly and efficiently.
  • Work well with peers and Production and Maintenance work force, providing/receiving direction as necessary to meet production or project targets.
  • Work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with rapidly changing goals and priorities.
  • Work with minimal supervision on mechanical projects from gathering internal customers’ requirements to design, detailing, scoping, quotation, installation and troubleshooting and commissioning.
  • Motivated and energetic towards accurate completion of multiple projects and achieving department goals.


Desired Skills:

  • Broad skill set (first principal understanding to implementation/installation) of mechanical skills.
  • Technical curiosity towards mechanical equipment functionality and design for improvements.
  • Experience working with air cylinders, pneumatics valves, servo motors.
  • Working knowledge of automated mechanical systems, including low-level control devices such as pneumatic valves and instrumentation.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks mechanical design software, and for use in applications such as FEA. Working knowledge of document managing system PDM is a plus.

Travel Requirements:

  • We anticipate less than 5% travel for this role, international travel is possible


Hours of work:

  • 8 AM– 5 PM / 24-hour production support
  • Weekend team (periodic) & project team production coverage during start-ups
