Role Purpose

The Forming Process Engineer will transfer new technologies and processes from development to manufacturing production lines. The role focuses on advancing Forming technology and fundamental understanding, expanding capability, and ensuring repeatability across production lines while providing technical expertise to address manufacturing challenges. The position requires a combination of data driven problem solving, strong foundation in engineering principles, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with globally distributed engineers, operators, and researchers across multiple divisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the Gorilla Glass forming processes
  • Interacts with Development and Operations teams to support new glass and technology migration across the Gorilla Glass fleet
  • Lead experiments to develop fundamental understanding of the process and provide change recommendation based on results
  • Lead problem solving sessions as necessary to resolve issues during various stages of process evolution (development, engineering, manufacturing)
  • Develop and utilize process engineering skillsets (problem analysis, process data analysis, root cause, MEE, etc.)
  • Maintains a system mindset, builds understanding of interfacing processes
  • Captures and documents fundamental knowledge, process learning, and intellectual property   

Experiences/Education - Required

  • B.S. or equivalent in an engineering discipline
  • 0-3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong scientific and engineering skills for fundamental understanding, including broad knowledge of engineering principles (heat transfer, physics, mechanics, and material properties)
  • Use of the scientific method to solve problems thoroughly and effectively
  • Experience in design of experiments and data analysis
  • Teamwork skills demonstrated through project work

 

Non-Technical Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Cultural awareness and willingness to work with a globally dispersed team
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, changing priorities and changing requirements

Travel Requirements

  • Job is based in Harrodsburg, KY, USA.  
  • Expect 25% domestic and global travel.

 

Hours of work/work schedule

  • Full time (40 hours per week), but great flexibility required given the globally dispersed nature of the team and aggressive project timelines.
  • Teleconferences are likely during early morning or evening hours.
  • Night/weekend flexibility is expected during process startup activity.

The range for this position is $70,776.00 - $97,317.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
