Role Purpose

The Measurements and Quality Engineer / Supervisor leads a team responsible for the measurement technologies that enable product quality and manufacturing performance. This leader owns metrology equipment reliability, measurement system capability, MSA compliance, and implementation of new measurement technologies. Success in the role requires a blend of technical expertise, people leadership, statistical problem-solving, and project management to ensure measurement systems provide accurate, actionable data that drive operational and quality excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead team of engineers and technicians to maintain current measurements technology to include coordinating with internal and external engineering resources to deliver glass measurements, equipment accuracy and reliability 
  • Responsible for the metrology department and capital budget
  • Develop integration and receivership plans for new metrology gauges and requirements
  • Complete and maintain Measurement System Analyses for all key quality gauges, noting and acting on any opportunities for improvement
  • Provide guidance and training on the use of engineering principles and data to troubleshoot operational issues related to online and offline glass measurements 
  • Support experiments and developments on multiple products which vary in dimension, texture and composition 
  • Drive the use of KT, risk assessment, DMAIC, innovation and other tools to deliver results 
  • Track and report on critical gauge performance and capability metrics 
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and correct measurement and gauge equipment issues 
  • Provide guidance/training to other personnel, primarily operations, to support 24/7 measurements 
  • Onboard and validate new procedures and gauges through project work and SOP development 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree – mechanical, electrical, electronics, or computer science engineering or applicable mathematical field. 

Required Skills:

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, especially related to mechanical and electronic systems 
  • Methodical, data-based decision-making skills with the ability to use this data in proactively finding solutions 
  • Understanding of basic statistical and data analysis concepts and their application in manufacturing 
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) 

 

Desired skills

  • Demonstrated project management skills, such as rigorous application of documented procedures and driving schedule, budget and scope 
  • Ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment 
  • Experience with Six Sigma DMAIC principles

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 

  • Typical schedule is M-F, 8-5.  However, a typical work week consists of 45-50 hours per week.
  • Participation on plant weekend team with rotating coverage (typically 6-8 weekends per year, including one major holiday or one to two minor holidays) 
  • Occasional weekend or evening support for developments
  • Typically, have two to three calls per month outside of normal office hours to collaborate with other plants regarding quality and measurements systems

 

Travel Requirements:  

  • Majority of work week is spent on-site, in the plant. ‘Work From Home’ (WFH) policies will be executed as needed per the Responsible Corning policy 
  • Travel for this position is less than 10%, and is typically for the purposes of training, company conferences or technology summits and equipment supplier visits

The range for this position is $91,649.00 - $126,018.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
