Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on leadership through proactive participation in the development and implementation of manufacturing decoration processes, including screen printing, spray coating, ink-jetting or other physical application processes on substrate surface for Automotive Glass products
  • Lead and support experimentation, process development, qualification, validation, red flag / fast fail testing, new technology / process transfer, capacity expansion, process improvement for new and existing decoration manufacturing processes
  • Identify technical competencies essential to a world class Center of Excellence (COE) in automotive glass decoration and build bench strength and technical depth
  • Drive for fundamental understanding of decoration process
  • Develop habits, curiosity and culture to look for the root cause with the capability and in depth understanding to be able to make it appear or disappear at any instant
  • Lead process improvement of existing production line:  cycle time reduction, quality/yield improvement and etc.
  • Identify low cost manufacturing opportunities that maintain the specified quality level.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of product failures and implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide decoration process support for new business opportunities and adjacencies
  • Define and analyze equipment performance, capability, requirements and lead decision analysis
  • Work on technology development/testing and technology migration.
  • Interface and work with research & development on new processes/product development and introductions.
  • Transfer, industrialize and scale up technology for mass production and deliver running process to plant with training and documentation (Standard Operation Procedures, Process Set-points, FMEA, MSDS, RoSH, Operator and Maintenance Training)
  • Assess risks of chemical application in engineering, technologies and manufacturing. Recommend suitable substitutes for related industrial application.
  • Study correlations of process and product performance.
  • Teach process control and decoration manufacturing technologies upon request
  • Share lessons learned and projects experiences
  • Cross-train and coach team members
  • Prepare technical posters and presentations for internal technical conferences to showcase cutting edge decoration capabilities and areas of further study
  • Communicate effective in interdisciplinary teams. Organize inputs from team members, customers and vendors.
  • Plan and execute projects with project management tools and best practices as the lead of a technical team.     
  • Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise in glass decoration fundamentals
  • Travel to domestic and international locations for process development, equipment evaluation, capacity expansion and process improvement projects.

Education & Experience  

  • M.S./PhD in Technical Discipline; chemical, polymer, organic, materials, mechanical engineering background preferred.
  • Top Universities in the US, North America, Europe & Asia is a plus
  • 8+ years of decoration process experience in engineering and manufacturing
  • Experience in testing and/or developing inks for screen printing, inkjet and etc.
  • Background in engineering with strong analytical statistics and mathematics is a plus
  • 4+ years of experience in leadership/management role leading projects, coaching junior engineers and developing technical organization and technical road map.
  • Experiences with surface characterization and understanding of surface energy
  • Experiences with organic / polymer chemistry & engineering characterizations
  • Experience working in automotive subcomponent engineering and manufacturing is a plus
  • Exposure to APQP, PPAP, IATF 16949, Automotive Safety Testing and product reliability testing a plus
  • Experience living, studying, working and/or traveling for an extended period outside of home country or dealing with foreigners extensively is a plus
  • Extensive working experience in multi-national corporations is a plus
  • Diversity of experience or background is an asset

Required Skills                                                

  • Solid knowledge of glass surface properties, ink / paste formulations and surface characterization.
  • Solid understanding of glass surface decoration process and fundamentals, including screen printing, spray coating, inkjet and other similar technologies
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Broad-based vision and strategic thinking to work with businesses across the country and lead decoration technology strategically through execution
  • Strong ability to manage change and multiple priorities such as COE (Center-of-Excellence) capability development, project activities and Community-of-Practice (COP) collaboration.
  • Prior engineering experience with technical/project leadership responsibility for design, development, and deployment of industrial inkjet systems and/or automated large size screen printers to manufacturing.  Strong communication skills for working in a highly matrix environment and with departments of different mandate and culture
  • Proficient in English and another major Asian language. Good written and oral communication are essential.
  • Presentation and technical writing skills

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Ability to concisely communicate key issues and concepts to people at a variety of levels (from high levels of management to line operators working on the factory floor)
  • International project experience involving installation, and start-up of processes in a clean room and glass/ceramic finishing plant environments with high levels of automation
  • Knowledge of process control/process discipline, SPC, DOE, Statistics, DMAIC, Taguchi and Total Quality methods.
  • Experience in display cover glass processes and related measurements.
  • Experience in glass serialization and tracking
  • Awareness of practical application of chemicals in TFT-LCD, cover glass, bonding and lamination
  • 3+ years of project management experience leading an engineering or technical team with an on-site hands-on approach and approachable leadership style
