For our location in Helsinki, Finland, we are looking for a
Sr. Scientist CFD - Heat and Mass Transfer
Location
- The Corning Scientific Center in Helsinki operates as a critical part of the Modeling & Computing Technologies group that services Corning’s global RD&E organization. We work closely with experimentalist partners around the globe to apply modeling capabilities to increase the pace of Corning’s innovation in addition to collaborating internally with business and across Research, Development, Engineering, and commercial technology.

Scope of position
- Develop and apply computational fluid dynamics (CFD), heat transfer simulations, and analytical tools, with a strong focus on free-surface modeling.
- Scientist responsible for improving process modeling, with an emphasis on developing a fundamental understanding of the underlying physical principles.
- Candidate must have a strong foundation in fluid mechanics and a high level of expertise in both numerical and analytical modeling.
- This position requires close collaboration within a global research, development, and engineering team.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Apply modeling tools to advance glass forming technology by improving process performance, optimizing parameters, and enhancing design solutions.
- Contribute to the development of new capabilities and methodologies.
- Engage with business units to address engineering-related challenges and provide technical support.
- Write technical reports, invention disclosures, & publications.
Required Education
- Ph.D./M.S. in CFD, heat transfer, applied Math & Physics, or a related field.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop CFD models and heat transfer simulations that meet application requirements, with an emphasis on building a strong fundamental understanding of model performance.
- Strong proficiency in fluid dynamics and heat transfer principles.
- Proficient in numerical methods and CFD simulation software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, OpenFOAM).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools for corporate communication and technical documentation.
- Strong technical writing skills and effective oral presentation abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in CFD.
- Experience with complex and non-Newtonian rheological flows.
- The individual should be able to translate industrial needs into well-defined modeling problems.
Desired Skills
- 5+ yrs. of work experience in similar field preferred.
- Experience with SPH/FPM software packages.
- Experience with HPC & Linux.
- Experience in leading projects.
Travel Requirements:
- Intermittent, generally no more than 2-3 times a year.
Hours of work/work schedule/Flex-time:

Hybrid, 40 hr. work week, flex time, full-time position, 6-month probation period.
